We don't have a pension to stay for anymore. The only other thing was flight benefits and a check.
They are giving you flight benefits. So if you can get another job doing something you might want to do and you are covered on income. Do it. |

And Georgie says the economy is just FINE.

I guess for these times, this is a midcourse way... I guess it's OK..by me... until I hear a better way to get rid of deadbeat companies. GM and Ford seem to be recovering.

Maybe Delta knows that it may soon cease as an airline corporation entirely?
Any company can only lay off so many people as the years go by before no one works there anymore. |

Have any of the presidental candidates given any ideas on how to solve the economic problems? No, because politicians only divide up the existing economic pie they don't creat it.
Bill Gates was able to capture the software market in the 90's and brought a tremendous amount of money into the economy. He made the economic pie bigger. America needs to pray for more economic innovators and visionaries and less big mouthed, wild spending politicians. |

Well I can see the "CLASS WARFARE" coming back again in the industry...hourly worker vs top salary excutives. It will begin to rip apart companies like it did after 9-11 when the cuts were made. I see the same downturn happening in the exact same fashion after 2001. Afterall the companies and the higher ups know how to do it now, they can follow the exact same game plan, the ink is still drying on the furlough plan! They have a long list they all share with excuses as to why their business model failed and why they need to go after the employees again. The big ones Delta, United, USAIRWAYS, NH will surely look at how they can get the most out of this. They will park planes, furlough employees, outsource more manitenance to El Salvador and cheap 3rd party places here in the USA, and close facilities. So I hope you all have kept your personal expenses in line and didn't do anything financially "DUMB" thinking that things will be "ROSEY" for ever. Those that have been in this career for years know that the next downturn is always around the next corner and you better be ready for it. There will have to be consolidation in this industry, there are just way to many airplanes and it is becoming more and more difficult to make money. So regardless of whether the unions are on-board mergers and Sales of routes and aircraft will be on the horizon.

So Delta will run their airlines 30,000 people SHORT?
Ill be keeping my head to the skies for their planes! |
|
This will be great fro DL, they're going to get everything they want...again. They will replace 30,000 of their employees who make a descent wage and have full benefits with 20,000 contract workers who are making minimum wage with no benefits. That is, if they can convince people to take the early out, I'm sure it will be a real "good deal".

All the airlines were much better off, and safer, before Ronald Raygun deregulated them.

Talt, Jimmy Carter deregulated the airlines.
Ron Reagan fired ATC strikers. Cheers. |
I think it was Jimmy Carter who signed the deregulation act. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airline_Deregula... |

|
Carter deregulated the airlines not Pres Reagen
|
|
|
Reagan only fire the whole crew of radar watchers who were on strike to get a bigger slice of pizza.
|
|
Not exactly. Delta will replace high seniortiy top of the scale workers with contract low wage workers. The early out offer make 30,000 eligible, but Delta is looking for 2000 employees to take the deal. If your thinking of a career, don't choose the airlines. |
|
Looked it up. By golly you're right. Carter did start the process. Yes, Raygun fired the controllers who went on strike because of unsafe practices. Still unsafe. |

Take a good look at your ceo anderson's past because he is a pro at sucking every penny out of a company. He is offering the severance to 30000 because the offer is of little or no value and if he can get 2000 to leave he will have won.

We had a negro ask for the jumpseat today! He was claiming to be a pilot, imagine that! If it's true, we better get rid of those "BATS", first.
