United Offers up to $100K If Workers Leave

United Airlines reached a deal with the flight attendants' union to offer up to $100,000 in severance for workers who leave the company. United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy said Monday that the airline hopes that at least 2,100 of its 23,000 flight attendants will accept.

Air Canada approaches pilots for early discussions leading to longer contract

Air Canada is moving to begin contract negotiations with its pilots union early in hopes of avoiding the acrimony that marked the last round talks that ended up being eventually settled by a federal arbitrator. "We are in talks to determine if there is basis for achieving an early renewal of the pilots' collective agreement," Air Canada spokeswoman Isabelle Arthur wrote in an email.

WestJet charges $25 bag fee for economy fares

The cost of flying is increasing for millions of Canadian passengers after WestJet Airlines announced it will start charging some economy fare customers a fee to check their first bag on flights within Canada and to the United States. The new fee, ranging between $25 and $29.50 depending on provincial taxes, will apply to all new bookings made starting Monday for travel on WestJet and its regional airline Encore as of Oct. 29. WestJet said the new charge - to be paid at check-in or up to 24 hours online before travel - is expected to affect one in five of its travellers, or some 4.4 million passengers a year.

Delta among tops for on-time arrivals

Delta Air Lines Inc. - the busiest carrier flying out of the Dayton International Airport - posted the second-highest on-time arrival rate in July, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's September 2014 Air Travel Consumer Report. Overall, the nation's largest airlines had on-time arrival rates of 75.6 percent, up from both the 73.1 percent in July 2013 and the 71.8 percent mark in June 2014.

The old "canyon blue" was retired for a darker shade, the stripes on the tail have been modified, the fonts brought into the 21st century, and - most significantly - a yellow, red and blue heart added to the plane's belly.
