Wizards chased down by Cavaliers
CLEVELAND -- So many players have come and gone and so many dramatic shifts in the directions of the franchise that an early November meeting between the Washington Wizards and Cleveland Cavaliers didn't exactly inspire the same passions as they did when they were seemingly making annual springtime meetings. New Wizard Randy Foye was so out of the loop that he had to search DeShawn Stevenson and LeBron James on YouTube to get caught up on what has fueled some deep-rooted tensions.
Both teams have moved on from those times, with the Wizards hiring a coach with suburban Cleveland roots in Flip Saunders and the Cavaliers finding a larger-than-life personality to pair with James in Shaquille O'Neal. And in the first of just three meetings this season -- barring a fourth postseason matchup in five seasons -- the Wizards jumped out to an early 18-point lead, but they were unable to withstand James, O'Neal, and a second-half three-point barrage as they lost, 102-90.
Miami-Washington: Heat Look to Forget Suns Loss and Win Against Wizards
There's no doubt the fourth quarter of last night's game was horrendous. The Phoenix Suns employed a zone defensive scheme that both surprised and stymied the Miami Heat and allowed the Suns to come back from 12 points down in the third quarter to overtake the Heat 104-96. While the Heat held the explosive Suns to well below their NBA-best 117 ...

Wizards-Cavs: a statement game even before it's played
Remember when LeBron James said there was no rivalry between the Wizards and the Cavaliers, because the Wiz haven't yet won? DeShawn Stevenson was asked about that comment Monday afternoon, on the eve of the rivalry's first 2009-10 incarnation.
'He's the Golden Child, he's gonna say that,' Stevenson said. 'He has a lot of stuff to lose. I don't. I don't care.'
Later, Stevenson was asked about ex-teammate Antonio Daniels possibly signing with the Rust Belt infidels.
'I have nothing against [Daniels] as a person,' Stevenson said. 'It's just that jersey and that person that's over there.'

Wizards learn to compensate for injuries
Caron Butler is expected to return from a bruised left kneecap on Tuesday in Cleveland, and Antawn Jamison, sidelined with a right shoulder injury, will make his season debut some time in the next few weeks. But through the first three games of the season, the Washington Wizards (2-1) have shown that even without an all-star forward or two, they can succeed through double D: Depth and defense.
Neither had been present much in past seasons, when injuries left the Wizards without talented veterans, and an indifference to anything other than offense shortened their win totals and had them vacationing in May.
