You need to measure real world fuel economy. The Prius is single handedly responible for the new rating method that lowered all cars EPA fuel econmy ratings. I believe that Toyota has a way to cheat the system. Every Ford I've ever driven gets higher than rated economy. An example; Mercury Mariner Hybrid (rating 29/27) gets over 32 MPG on a long term average. Also the '08 Focus gets better fuel economy than the microscopic Yaris.

I think the correct spelling for this usage is: mileage.

The Sierra Club refuses to condemn the gasoline powered, CO belching and air (dust) polluting leaf blowers. It is not politically correct to do so.

The government is not likely to do anything about fuel prices. Just remember that there is federal and state tax on each gallon. The higher prices translate into higher tax revenue for the Fed and The State....and the counties. There is no incentive to reduce fuel prices. The Fed wins big.......I think a lot of this goes to pay for The Current War and "other losing wars" we have going on.

18.4 cents per gallon Fed Tax. Other taxes include a 6% state sales tax and 1.25% county, plus additional local sales taxes and 1.2 cents per gallon state UST fee.

You do the math..........

Talk about taking the ultimate leap! Do you honestly think that embedded gas taxes pay for the war? Wow, never seen that coming. That comment was about as stupid as your others. Well, since you lack any knowledge as to the use of a gas tax, I’ll make it very simple. It’s used for maintenance, and development of the national highway system. It was mandated in 1905. That’s the reason the national highway system is not a toll system.

This government can do anything it wants to with all collected revenues and it does not need anybody's authorization once the money is in hand. They've raided the Social Security funds for "other uses" they've justified. All revenues are one big money pot. Is there something about that which you don't understand?? Don't you understand smoke and mirrors?? They're short on money and in debt up to their nostrils and they'll get all the money they need from ALL the low hanging fruit from ALL the money trees they have. What don't you understand about the U.S. Dollar having about 60 cents worth of purchasing power??

The predecessor of the National Highway System was the Office of Road Inquiry back in the late 1890's and has changed agencies names numerous times since then. Their concern at that time was mostly for routes for those bicycles that had the large front wheels popular at that time. Since the ORI under the Dept. of Agriculture, it has become several agencies. They are Bureau of Public Roads (1915), Public Roads Administration (1939), then the Federal Works Administration which was abolished in the 1940's and then changed back to Bureau of Public Roads again but shifted to The Dept. of Commerce. In the 60's, the Bureau of Public Roads was integrated into The Federal Highway Administration and bundled with The Bureau of Motor Carrier Safety and The National Highway Safety Bureau which is now known as NHTSA, the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration.

This looks like duplication of services and money laundering to me. There are a whole lot of money trees and this is just one of them. Wake up!! How long are you going to believe in a system that threw the middle class overboard 30 years ago!!

They will believe in the system as long as they think they're getting something for nothing. People are easy to fool.

It's easier than you think. All you have to do is distract the public mind. Point one way and say, "hey....lookie there at that" pointing with one hand and with the other hand pick pocket them and if you think they're onto something going on, just change the subject........that usually throws them off the trail.

For years now, I've had this nagging feeling that "We"......The Great USA have slipped into the toilet and are circling the drain and spinning quicker and quicker.

Thank You, corporate America.

Great; another conspiracy theory nut-job. Calm down there Mr. OC Observer. You googled a few too many facts that crossed over each other, and you got in to a dizzy. LOL - just to let you know - there's no black helicopters circling your house, they're not taping your phones, and I'm sure they couldn't careless what book you've check out of the library.

Oh, you mean the "general fund money" that the U.S. is deferring by borrowing from the Chinese to pay for this insanity? You mean THAT part of the "general fund money"?

I'll be happy to talk graduate university degrees with you at any point in time, "Gringos".

Well, I must say, to not have the basic understanding of the simple branches of government, and the allocation of tax revenues in very alarming for a self proclaimed university graduate. I hope you’re not talking about Barber College?
By the way Mr. College graduate, the general fund does not borrow money from the slopes. It’s an entity from tax revenue only. But, I’m sure you’re going to come back with some type of rant about how the government is bad, and America is bad, and people are bad, and I think you might try to throw a jab at illegals too.
Let me guess, you’re a retired professional who sits in a house that’s paid for, and you spend most, if not all, of your day festering about how the country has changed – right? I’m sure, between Matlock, and Murder she wrote, you probably listen NPR and you probably agree with everything they say. Am I in the ball park there Mr. College Graduate?
"Slopes"?

Surprise! Another racist posting here!

One of MANY articles concerning our borrowing to pay for a disaster.

This is from the Christian Science Monitor:

The US can certainly afford the war, says budget analyst Stan Collender, a managing director of Qorvis Communications in Washington. But the spending is taking resources from other areas, he notes. Because the US is borrowing to finance the war, the cost will be borne by future generations. "And it's still going to be one of the most expensive wars we have ever fought," he says.

Unlike in previous major wars, the United States has cut taxes at the same time it has increased military spending. "It's fair to say all of the money spent on the war has been borrowed," says Richard Kogan, a senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a think tank in Washington. "But eventually everything has to be paid for."

You're getting your information from a Washington 'think-tank'? That's really funny. That's like asking Hitler what he thought of the Jews. Come-on man, stop being a simple-simpleton. You're just trying to spread an agenda to promote distain.

You can't read very well, can you?

It was from the Christian Science Monitor, Genius.

The U.S. has been borrowing money from the Chinese for years. This is news to you?

And it's just one of many. Look it up yourself. I don't have time to waste on you.

No, no, no, you don't get off that easy. You said, and quoted from aomebody in a Washington think-tank. You said it. As far as borrowing money from the slopes, that's nothing new. We borrow from everybody. Trust me, you don't want to get into a pissing contest with me on economics, you'll lose. Bottom-line, the ebbs and flow will continue, and that's just the way it is. Nothing more, nothing less. I think you're a little upset that finally someone is confronting you, and challenging you liberal bull shite. Even worse, I'm a Mexican. I'm sure that really eats you up. See, as I mentioned before; forth, and fifth generation Mexicans (such as me)know the truth, and have no fear of confronting hype, and lies. Of which, you own.
