Mercury Reportedly Getting Focus-Based Small Car, Smart Move?

The as-of-yet unnamed small car will arrive sometime in the 2011 model year, following the release of the redesigned Mercury Milan in 2010.

A new Mercury? Our '05 Mariner is the first American vehicle we have purchased in over twenty years - after a number of German and Japanese vehicles we wanted to try a home grown brand - the Mariner has compared favorably with our Toyota - to the point where a subcompact in 2011 from Mercury would be considered seriously.

My 02 Taurus was in for maintenance, received a loaner from our friendly Ford/Lincoln-Mercury dealer. The loaner was a 2008 Mariner. We loved it so much we made an excuse about the Taurus to get to keep the loaner an extra day. Mercury is finally on the right track - great quality, ride, handling. Our next vehicle is undoubtedly a Mercury...looking forward to see what small, economical cars they introduce.

I am holding out hope the European Ford Mondeo as a Mercury here.
