This only reflects on how stupid the UAW has become. Their losing their jobs and now they want to strike. Another reason for them to go away and let real down to earth working people have their jobs. Get a life.

You have GOT to be joking. Where did you hear this about a looming strike? Surely even the UAW is not stupid enough to strike at this time. If they do it will wipe out all the gains Ford has made and put Ford in the same sinking boat with GM and Chrysler.

Maybe I should sell my Ford bonds now.

I can't advise you on your bonds. But common sense tells me that if they strike it will go over like a lead baloon on wall street and all the talking heads will be spewing gloom and doom and that will not help either the equities or the bonds. As stupid as the UAW is, surely to God they are not stupid enough to call a strike now.

Will the funny thing is Ford stock is up over 200% in the last two months and bond values are at 91 cents on the dollar. The bonds are paying 7 and 8 percent, can't get that any where. They have been paying me 7% for the last 5 years ,not bad. I just don't want them to go the GM way. I guess I will hold off because I think their CEO is much smarter then most.

I think Allan Mulally is top notch. If Ford would have gotten hold of him 30 years ago it would be the top auto company in the world. Believe it or not, he requested a copy of my book, after Jerry Flint, auto editor at Forbes did a write up. I sent him one, and he emailed me a thank you. If anyone can pull Ford out and put it back on track, it is Mulally.

Hey, Slimey, how do you figure? Are you going to offer these UAW people jobs. I think your track is heading in the wrong direction.

Now that they're no longer Bargaining Unit Manufacturers, they can go back to work instead of sitting on the picket line for $200/week. They showed that the UAW is starting to come to its senses and realize how necessary it can be to cut off a sector of the organization that's only losing money. They also educated the public on the futility of striking when people are getting laid off. When many have nothing, anything is a lot.

Hey Slimey, you just discribed capitalism at it's best. It isn't always fair, but sooner are later the job gets done.

I like the way you put things, TV man. Short, concise, and hits the nail on the head.

Thanks, hey Savage hows the book doing? As soon as I go to my local book store I'm going to request it. That would be called Books-a-Million.

The book is doing well. It will be reviewed in the Nov issue of Car and Driver Magazine. Also, I will be in a documentary film called "American Dream" that will be shown at the Sundance Film Festival next year. It is about Americans who have had a dream, and did what they had to do to reach it. I guess that includes me, since "A Savage Factory" ate a hole in my gut for 30 years. I started writing it at age 36 and finished it at age 66. One last thing. Next Tuesday, Sept 15, I will be going on a tour of the Sharonville Transmission Plant to write an article about "then vs now" Everyone knows Ford has improved tremendously, and now produces a top quality product second to none. I want to write an article about exactly what has changed that took them from having the largest recall in automotive history to building quality as good, or better, than Toyota or Honda. So far I have gotten a nibble from the Wall Street Journal and other publications on the article. The tour guides will be the Plant Manager, the Chairman of UAW Local 863, the UAW Health and Safety guy, and a rep from Ford Dearborn Headquarters. I look forward to being able to write an analytical, upbeat, positive article about all the good things that Ford has done to put it on top of the heap. Thanks for asking. By the way, if you go to my website www.asavagefactory.com , you can order my book directly from the publisher and avoid the profit that Barnes and Noble or Borders takes.

Personally, I'm a fan of capitalism, even if it tends to produce more losers than winners.

Hey Slimey, you got that right. Capitalism produces more losers then winners. That's why I always laugh when conservatives make fun of goverment run operations. Goverment operations were never meant to be profit makers. They are created to make people happy. Goverment is not about profit it's about redistribution. If the people are happy then the goverment has succeeded. Many more free enterprise operations fail then goverment operations. Remember the goverment isn't measured by profit.

Checks. I think government works best when you don't realize it's there.

Daily Horoscope for December 21

Libra

You've been quite a gadabout in recent weeks, but as the Sun enters Capricorn at the Solstice, you start to yearn for the comforts of home. You might even be tempted to cancel some forthcoming social events, so you can flop on your sofa and catch your breath. Sentimental thoughts could steal over you in coming weeks, making you think about some of the people you used to know and love.
