For a letter so bent on facts, this statement seems entirely too subjective.
Doesn't the "fuel-efficiency" of a vehicle depend on its utility? Comparing mpg is useless when a Prius can't haul 5 kids plus their hockey equipment.
An H2 would clearly be the inefficient vehicle for a single commuter when compared to a Prius. Likewise, the Prius would be inefficient for hauling a significant load (more trips, or would have to hire someone with a truck).
A motorcycle that gets 55 mpg is getting 55 people miles per gallon. An SUV with 5 people in it that gets 12 mpg gets is getting 60 people miles per gallon. Which is more fuel efficient?
