I am delighted! I own an'04 Prius, paid for. Honda is brilliant to revive its Insight. I am not brand loyal and am holding out for a vehicle that gets 100 mpg before buying my next auto. At last Toyota may have some competition, which it is not getting from the much vocalized Volt, which has a long time to go and is cost prohibitive for the majority of us. GM is (sadly) paying for it's lack of insight, pun on purpose. Ford is dabbling in sensibility with its Escape. Will both now "wisen" up and smell the cappuccino? Hybrid technology is the best we have right now. I'd like to see it in a classic, sporty looking model. Honda has a winner on the way.

I am still driving my 2000 Honda Insight and am still getting 50mpg and still pass cars with ease on the freeway and beat everyone off the line at lights. So I really don't know what people are talking about when they talk down on hybrids, they rock! Oh, and much like Lola, I am also waiting for a 100mpg car or a fast electric car that's more affordable than the Tesla.

I finally picked up my new 2008 civic hybrid today!!! I was starting to feel like I was the last jack arse on the road driving a Dodge Ram King Cab Extended Bed truck commuting in and out of Boston everyday!!!
Anyway I was on the waiting list for 6 weeks and the guy at the dealership tried to talk me out of the hybrid. Kept telling me I could get a better price/mileage ratio if I just bought a regular civic. When I finally explained to him that for me this wasn't about SAVING money. Nope...well maybe a little. This purchase was me putting my money were my mouth was with regards to peak oil and global warming.
Here's the deal. When it comes to peak oil hybrids sure as heck aren't going to solve the problem. But by buying the most effecient vehicles we can...we send a message to auto makers to continue making more efficient vehicles. Basically I'm voting with my wallet to keep up efficiency research.
The Car:
MPG On the way back form the dealership (about 10 miles), in start and go traffic with 6-8 red lights. I managed to pull into the driveway at home with a 51.8 MPG average. I wasn't driving like Granny, but I was making a consciouse effort to not ride up peoples arses. Essentially I kept up with traffic and didn't drive like a jerk.:)
Being that when I hypermile my Dodge Ram (I know...just doesn't sound right does it? lol) I managed to average an honest.....17.6 mpg. So regardless of the actual miles I manage with the HCH I will certainly being doing much "less" damage than I was before......
we still need vehicles that get 100 MPC (Miles Per Charge). We need to honestly get our transportation system completely off gas and we needed to do it yesterday!
Not much else to say that you can't really find on line. I was a little bummed when I noticed the 2009 HCH had a better a full on USB port for directly plugging in ipodes.
Oh...and I gotta be honest. It's a good looking car, BUT MY GOD ARE THE WHEELS UGLY! lol. I know owning a hybrid is not all about style...but sheesh how many extra mpg's could they possible squeeze out because of the cheezy wheels?
Cheers!
I'll come back and post again in a few days after driving it a bit and give a better report.
Cheers

I have a 2005 Prius and love it. Commute about 65 miles per day, mostly highway, and can regularly get 54-57 mpg, depending on weather, traffic conditions etc.$35 fillups still go ten days to two weeks... Oh, and I already have a SPEEDING ticket from the turnpike - hybrids are not slow cars, and have very nice acceleration if you need it. Keep the tires inflated to 40 psi, and minimize the use of hard braking and AC, you will get FANTASTIC mpg's - I've had a lot of jealous admirers of mid-50's mpg. I also agree we need to get off oil and gasoline for most transportation needs. I wish I could afford a Tesla Roadster, lol. 250 miles per charge, and 3.8sec 0-60 acceleration - an electric ROCKET! Regards to all, Dr. Dick

I LOVE my Insight! It's a 2000, I bought it on eBay, and I am getting 55.7 mpg with 108,000 miles on the odometer. I have a (too) long commute and carpool, so I could get even better efficiency if I could go at slower speeds and carry less weight, but this vehicle is the GREATEST!

How may thousands of dollars saved over the 250,000 km in my 2000 Insight? Not to mention less damage to the environment... Best milage on a tank of gas was 2.7 litres/100 km which is over 100 mi/gal, I think. Excited about the even better models expected in the next couple of years; the new Insight or the Volt? decisions...

People that are STILL dissing on hybrids are plain 'ol retards. That's all I can say about them, first you're skeptical, then you admit when something is good (and for something now that is fair priced and saves you LOTS of gas money on top of a tax break and/or HOV lane advantage...it all equals GOOD). If you can't see that its good by now, congratulations, you're a RETARD and should drive your gas-sucking truck off a bridge.

Im glad Honda has the hybrid version for the Insight in 2010. Just wondering why Honda discontinues their hybrid version of the Accord. They said Honda is greenest car company in America, but Toyota sold more hybrid vehicles worldwide not including Corollas, Matrix and Yaris.. Just hope Honda's Insight for 2010 will not be discontinued just like the Accord.
