2014 Land Rover LR4 HSE review notes

SENIOR MOTORSPORTS EDITOR MAC MORRISON: The LR4 has never been my first choice in the Land Rover range, mostly due to its exterior styling and proportions appearing a little dated to my eyes, but this mild refresh for the 2014 model year LR4 improves it a bit, and our test car's optional $3,500 Black Design Package even made me think it looks ... Mark Phelan: Big price, little buzz for 2014 Ford Tremor

Call it an F-150-minus, but with a plus-sized price. Ford introduced its 2014 Tremor sport truck to generate buzz as the current F-150 pickup enters its last few months of production, and perhaps as a preemptive strike against the new midsize Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups General Motors will introduce this fall.

Lansing State Journal

Editorial: Lansing's partnership with GM thrives

<![CDATA[The good fortune that Greater Lansing and General Motors Co. enjoy from decades of partnership appears to be growing yet again. City officials said last week they had a request for a tax incentive linked to GM's consideration of a $37 million expansion of the Lansing Delta Township assembly plant. While the automaker offered no specifics, the request would cut real property taxes in half for 12 years. The project would raise some $4 million in new taxes despite the incentive, which would be split between Lansing and Delta Township under a tax-sharing agreement that covers the plant. The work would begin this fall and finish by June 2016. Some are hopeful that the investment could signal new product for the factory, which employs more than 3,000 hourly production workers building the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia crossovers. The documents filed for the tax incentive indicate the project would help the automaker retain 38 jobs and mention no new employees. Still, even without additional jobs such an investment reflects GM's long-term investment in Greater Lansing and its commitment to keeping facilities here healthy. That can mean only good things for a region that has automaking roots more than a century old. The Lansing Delta Township expansion is potentially one more in a string of improvements GM is making to its operations here. GM has started work on its $44.5 million logistics center at the Lansing Grand River assembly plant, which will employ 200 new workers next year. The logistics center will be used to sort parts before they are delivered to the assembly line. The Lansing Grand River plant also is expected to get a $162 million stamping plant with 65 jobs. Both the Lansing Grand River efforts are thought to be connected to plans to move production of the Chevrolet Camaro here from a Canadian factory, possibly in 2015. Grand River currently makes Cadillac products, including the CTS and ATS. With the Delta expansion and Grand River expansion, GM's planned future investment in Lansing tops $243 million. There are not many communities that can boast this type of investment from a major employer. There are even fewer that faced losing that employer when outdated factories needed to be replaced, but managed to transition into the future with new plants, new products and a renewed commitment to adapt and thrive. It's a unique accomplishment. GM workers and suppliers, the region's business and civic leaders and its residents can be justifiably proud. An LSJ editorial
