Sales down by a truckload

Two years ago, Wheeling Chevrolet dealer Bill Stasek was comfortable with 50 pickups in stock, but as sales have fallen, he says the 30 he has today are too many.

I'm a tall guy and love my F150, and I ain't gonna fit in no prius or other econobox. Picked up a 2006 King Ranch with 12K miles really really cheap. If you want/need a truck, nows a great time to go lookin.

Don't cry for the dealers. What they used to make in profit on trucks and SUVs, they'll now make on small cars and hybrids. I doubt if anyone is getting a deal on those overpriced vehicles these days.

This is what 7 1/2 years of Bu$h voodo economics has done to America. If McSame gets elected (or steals the presidency) you can count on things getting far worse.

The Dow went up 230% or 7300 points under Clinton. Under Bush, it's gone up just 1200 points or 11%. You do the math.

All the auto makers got too lazy when they were selling all those big SUVs and pickups making HUGE profits. Let's hope that this time they REALLY react to this gas "shock" and start engineering and building the correct vehicles for the U.S.A. PLEASE Detroit...look forward !

You're right. Nobody was buying SUV's until Bush got into office. The automakers were booming in the 90's making small, fuel efficient cars and then bango, 2000 hits and all we saw were SUV's.

now truck sales are Bush's fault to? has nothing to do with US automakers failing to identify economic trends?

Anybody who wants to put a "small, fuel efficient" car between him and a good sized tree when said car goes careening into said tree like a hockey puck on ice, well we call that "choice".

OK. So just how drunk do you plan to be? The MAJORITY of people drive sober and won't be 'carreening into said tree".
You should get a motorcycle, and be a 'single' statistic.

Oh here we go. Lets drive what Pelon wants us to drive and lets all wear the same silly sweater vests that Pelon wears and lest all live in a tiny POS apartment like our role model Pelon.

What works for you doesn't always work for everyone else. The cost of a hybrid car takes years to recover over a non hybrid economy car and therefore makes little economic sense. With today’s new car sales market, if someone can strike a great deal on a truck with enough savings to overcome the fuel cost differences, then the utility gained will be greater than the imagined savings that the hybrid will generate.

Thankfully we live in a country that allows choice and we are not subject to the whims of Chairman Pelon.

How come very little gets mentioned that Toyota
is reducing truck and SUV production?

over the last few years Toyota kept making larger trucks and SUV's with larger engines and those aren't selling either.

And exactly who held the .44 Magnum to the heads of people and FORCED them to buy those vehicles? Now what? You lefties think we should mandate what kinds of cars people can drive? Ridiculous.

We could sit here and play the numbers game all day. I have two hybrids. Will I make up the premium paid - probably in a couple years at the current gas prices.

But one of the things that the nahsayers forget is that it is also peace of mind knowing that I am buying half the gas that I used to. And the way I look at it, thats less oil we are buying from the sandlot onthe other side of the planet.

Between the two vehicles, I'll save a little over $3000 this year in gas. When you read this and say 'hey - thats not much' the thing to look at is the big picture - think how the numbers would multiple out if most cars in the US gave this country the same savings? How much power would the OPEC countries have if we only were buying half of what we used to?

My bad.

And to the guy who owns two hybrids... if they aren't Ford Escapes/Mercury Mariners, Malibu's, or Tahoes... thanks for supporting a foreign economy. You're part of the problem and not the solution.

They are an 07 escape hybrid and 08 mariner hybrid.

And what is your part of the solution?

Kindly get out of the gene pool...
