* A underage driver hit a road sign and later was located and found to be intoxicated on the 900 block of Brice Street at 3:07 a.m. Sunday. * Someone stole a 1999 Dodge Intrepid from the 200 block of Lawrence Street between 11:30 p.m. Sunday and 11 p.m. Monday. The owner of the vehicle allowed the man, whom he only knew by first name, to borrow his car for a short while. * Prescription pills were stolen from a home on the 600 block of Glenbrook Drive between Jan. 28 and 7 p.m. Sunday. * Someone attempted to enter a residence in the 5,000 block of Linnville Road, Newark, between noon Jan. 28 and noon Friday. The screens on several of the home's windows had been pushed up. * The driver's side rear passenger window of a vehicle was smashed in the 11,000 block of Marne Road, Newark, between 6 p.m. Saturday and 7:41 a.m. Sunday. * A trailer was stolen from the 13,000 block of National Road SW, Reynoldsburg, between 5 p.m. Friday and 8:15 a.m. Sunday. The trailer had been chained to a utility pole. * A man entered his neighbor's house in the 11,000 block of Staddens Bridge Road, Newark, between 1:50 and 4 :02 p.m. Sunday. The homeowner contacted the Licking County Sheriff's Office when he found a footprint on his doorstep and heard noises inside his house. Officers found a man inside, lying on the floor complaining of a heart attack. Several items in the home had been thrown around and officers discovered blood, allegedly from a cut on the suspect's hand, on the door and on other items in the house. The man said the chest pains might have been caused by cocaine. After medical treatment, he was taken to the Licking County Justice Center on a burglary charge. * Domestic violence was reported in the 100 block of Community Drive, Kirkersville, between 7:21 and 7:33 p.m. Sunday. A man's wife allegedly grabbed him around his neck and squeezed, leaving red marks. * A woman was punched in the face several times by her husband in the 11,000 block of Worthington Road, Pataskala, between 11:30 and 11:37 a.m. Monday. She was found to have a split lower lip, a loose front tooth and a red mark on her nose. The husband allegedly admitted to officers that he was a heroin addict. * More than $390 worth of construction equipment was stolen from a new house in the 100 block of Liberty Woods Court, Johnstown, between the afternoon of Jan. 19 and 12:05 p.m. Monday. * A John Deere Gator valued at $8,000 and six cans of gasoline were stolen from an unlocked shed in the 13,000 block of Morse Road, Pataskala, between the afternoon of Jan. 26 and 12 p.m. Monday. via The Advocate

Perk students get chance to Go Green

Brian West, a drama student at the Perkinston campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, said he throws everything away. Aluminum cans, paper, glass, cardboard - it goes straight to the Dumpster. He drives to his Biloxi job in a 1997 Dodge Intrepid, which gets 15 miles per gallon.
On Thursday, West and other students got wind of a new project to make the Perkinston campus a national example of an environmentally aware community college. Called the Go Green project, the two-month program features eco-friendly living, from recycling bins in dorms to energy-efficient lightbulbs. At the launch event were speakers, freebies and gas-efficient cars. Read more
