Ethanol producers are being subsidised with taxpayers money. Farm land is being converted to fuel land thus the cost of groceries are soaring. Just how much are we paying for ethanol? The only ones getting any return on ethanol subsidies is the politicians, in the form of campaign contributions and the taxpayer gets the shaft.

This country's current ethanol strategy is a failure - besides front line consumers who already see that, more and more scientific and economic authorities are recognizing that too.
Curing cancer is a good goal - but we didn't buy the apricot pit cure. We "ain't" buying this corn either!
Any politician still on board with this ethanol strategy risks being seen as a fool - not someone we want in charge of policy.

Thanks Charlie! I traded in my mini-van for a Ford Focus, which by the way, I hate, just so I could get better gas mileage. Now that you have mandated this 90/10 gas/ethanol mix, I'm getting the same cruddy gas mileage in a smaller car, and yet not saving any money on gas. Hmmm. Not that I think there is a shot in Hell that you'll be elected vice president (if even chosen as a running mate), but if it does work out, it might be a good thing for Florida.

E85 = Total Bologna. Any idiot who would make fuel out of the food they eat and feed their animals should just pop themselves in the head and get it over with.

The article said E85 is 85% ethanol and 15% gas. I believe this is exactly backward (should be 85% gas and 15% ethanol).
Regarding the E90 crap we are now forced to use, my truck throws a "check engine" light everyday since I was forced by Charlie to use it.
Thanks Charlie, you are an idiot.

Another negative... the alchohol in the Ethanol corrodes non-metal fuel tanks, boats, lawn equip.etc. This goo then enters engines and can cause complete failure, it has also corroded tanks to the point of tank failure and fuel leaks. California has a class action suit against Ethanol producers. Did our Governor think about the boating interests in this state?

It's 85% ethanol. The junk we're using now is only 10% ethanol, or I guess one could call it E10. Ethanol is the greatest farce we've ever seen.

E85 = 85% ethanol, the crap we are using now is refered to as E10. Your'e right about everything else though. And if your truck doesn't like E10 it won't even run on E85.

what is going to happen to all of the cars in Central Florida that are not flex fuel vehicles. that means cars not designed to run on ethanol. ethanol is highly corrosive and saving a few pennies is going to result in tens of thousands of dollars in engine damage. someone i know her car doesn't want to start and it runs rough. in Florida there is no choice, all gasoline has ethanol. than there is the food shortage issue because ethanol comes from corn. than also there is the bugaboo issue of decreased fuel economy. we are trying to reduce fuel consumption but instead we use a fuel additive that increases fuel consumption. was this an energy conservation plan designed by OPEC.

No, the OPEC plan was to make ethanol by using poppy plants imported on huge tanker ships. But when they saw the corn plan, they thought it was much better.
