GM made a strategic mistake when production of the Camaro was given to Canada. The low value of the dollar makes the exchange rate unfavorable, lower labor costs in the U.S.A. and domestic production would enhance the Camaro popularity despite higher gas prices. The Corvette is proof of how much enthusists will flock to the factory for a closer look at America's sports car. Bowling Green, KY has kept the Corvette in the spot light, the museum is unparalleled in the history behind GM's halo car. The Camaro needs the same exposure, to keep it viable during these rocky market conditions. GM's 28 year old Oklahoma City plant offered a prime location for a car of this type. Located in the heartland, at the crossroads of I35 north and south, I40 east and west. Route 66 also runs thru the heart of OKC, making it easy to access for fans everywhere. The assembly plant has been idle for over two years after discontinuation of the midsize SUV's. GM spent $700 million in 2002 to update the plant for flexible manufacturing. A new paint shop was rebuilt after a May 2003 tornado. The plant was already paid for and one of GM's most modern with an outstanding quality reputation. After building 5.5 million vehicles from 1979-2006, it seems GM has overlooked a prosperous opportunity. The OKC workforce of 2,200 is either retired or transfered, making it possible to replace the entire labor force for half price with new hires. How can GM afford to overlook such an opportunity? Many older plants need millions to bring them up to date with the OKC plant. Yet, GM is content to sell the OKC plant for $55 million to the county for lease to the Air Force. These kind of business decisions have put GM in the condition it is in today. These assests need to utilized as an assembly plant after such a huge investment, Oklahoma's strategic location is even more important with the developement of alternative fuels. Wind power, solar and switchgrass will make Oklahoma a leader, with oil and natural gas production. helping cut our imports and increase domestic production.

Get a grip Carman! Oshawa has the #1 Gm plant for production quality in North America period! The Camaro needs to be made by highly skilled and well trained works....not a museum! General Motors picked the best plant to build the classic car.

"Quality" and GM do not go together. Keep drilling for oil- GM will soon be dead and Canada will need to survive on oil production.

GM I believe is going to put a turbo 4 cylinder into the camaro as well, so it should get decent mileage. That will help sales.

Camaro was once an American Classic car. You could feel it was designed & built by your friends next door. Its luster peaked around '69-72 and has since slid into poorly designed gaudy models with usage of too much plastic and shabby workmanship/engineering. Now its '09/'10 re-introduction and development is under the leadership of an afro-american (africa has never designed a car) and will be built in canada (a quickly evolving mixed-mongrel nation). This is equivalent to a cowboy driving a chinese pickup. Automotive purist would be embarrassed to a fake from aliens. GoodBye GM.

GM is coming back in a big way. One by one they are coming out with cars that are better than their foreign competitors. Yes up until the recent past their cars have become pretty bad however, they are doing a very good job in fixing that problem. You can only be on top of the game for so long till someone overtakes you but history repeats itself and its about time for their comeback. And to Sad Camaro I couldnt care less who designed the new camaro or where they came from. They did an incredible job with the car. And clearly that afro-american is a hell of a lot smarter than you or you would be the one leading the development of the car. And i dont know what year you dropped out of school but try and remember how this country was formed.

The Camaro looks ill-timed. No consumer confidence and a dwindling market for 2-door coupes. I'm now looking at an AMG Mercedes in the used market. Stickered for almost $70K and the guy is asking $9900 with all maintenance up to date.
