G-8 endorses halving global emissions by 2050

World leaders on Tuesday endorsed halving world emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050, edging forward in the battle against global warming but stopping short of tough, nearer-term targets.

But last year's temps reduced by 0.7C? Giving a net-zero impact over the past 40 years? And tens of thousands of scientists have endorsed position papers stating that there is no direct causal relationship between man & global "warming"?

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for reducing pollution, but I'm *NOT* for paying my hard-earned money to a political "religion".

You want to cut global emissions by half, reduce the world's population by half. That takes care of pollution, food shortages, energy shortages and the rest.

this is why politics and science don't mix. theres been this mad rush to jump on the global warming bandwagon because it's the hot myth of the day, Instead of seeking votes of sheep that believe anything lets worry about actual global problems like the ozone layer, pollution of our air and lakes, decreased wildlife because of construction and tearing down the wilderness. Actual problems with the earth not some fad made up by a former vp to make money

The G8 seems to be good at putting out alot of "hot air".

Since this is really about money, lets start talking about money.$5/ton of CO2?$3 more per gallon of gas?

Wow that's pretty amazing, Actually there should be no emissions by 2050 because well we'll all be dead. Thanks Bush for the Marshal law and the lies. 2015 everyone kiss your ass goodbye. That's something this lying disgusting bunch of murder's do. Meanwhile, the politically connected are the ones who have already bought their way to a life. Underground that is. Hope all those bastards die too.

How about halving emission by 2010????

These G8 pukes are all about putting profit in their special interests' corporations pocket. It is time to by pass the greedy merchants and save ourselves. Leave up to them and we won't make it to 2050.

I'll await dick cheney's release of his findings that show there's no such thing as global warming. He is the only person I need to believe in.

The problem will go away sometime after the last human has vanished. There are plenty of viable solutions that would allow people to make money ... but that conflicts with the status quo encouraged by current corporate-government climate (pun intended). It is too easy not to take responsibility until the situation has degraded into anarchy.

Responsibility on many different levels is required (that includes stopping population growth).

I hate this G8 crap. Although we do need to find alternative energy sources for cars and other items we use, anything that smacks of world-wide government gets the "evil eye" from me!

I'll be 86 in 2050.

It's not up to "world leaders." It's up to technicians. Until someone can devise a system that runs on a readily available energy source, the world will continue to get hotter. Once the world's ice has totally melted, then we'll have a world war. When the big bombs fly billions, not millions, will die. Those who survive will then be able to have enough energy to start it all over again.

That's the reality we're facing. Everything else is fancy hopefulness.

Hey, everyone. Take a deep breath and get a grip.

I'm all for recycling and pollution control, but I'm not getting hysterical about global warming.

Do any of you remember the "coming ice age" and "global COOLING" scare in the 1970s? I guess that didn't exactly pan out, eh?

Too many reputable scientists are still not convinced of the doomsay predications.

2050? Is that a joke? Only politicians would try to get anyone to take that seriously.

Oh, and how are the Kyoto signers doing on their promised reductions? Yeah. I thought so.

The Kyoto treaty was written during the Clinton/GORE administration. They didn't see fit to present it to the U.S. Senate for ratification since they knew (as Bush states) that it would be damaging to the U.S. while letting China and India off the hook. They also knew that the Senate had voted unanimously (I think about 95 to 0) to not approve any such treaty if it damaged the economy of the U.S. Duh.

So if you think Saint Barry is going to save us all by signing Kyoto or a similar treaty and get it approved by the Senate, think again.

BTW - is it true Gore is becoming a billionaire with his carbon credit sales, speeches, the movie, etc.? Follow the money ... Has he really improved his huge mansion and out building(s) so he no longer uses about 250 times the amount of energy as the average American. Maybe only about 100 times now. That's nice.
