BMW to add 500 workers, spend $750 million at Greer plant
GREER -- BMW today announced plans to hire 500 new workers and spend $750 million at its plant in Spartanburg County.
By 2012, the plant's capacity will increase 33 percent to 240,000 cars a year, from 155,000 currently.
The German automaker had said in May that it intended to increase production at the Greer plant above 200,000 units annually to shield itself from the weaker dollar and meet potential market growth in its biggest single market, the United States.
