Burgeoning Kiama Artist Chris Anderson Goes From Strength to Strength

Young Minnamurra artist Chris Anderson is holding his first solo exhibition, "360 Degrees" at the Old Fire Station Community Art Gallery in Kiama until Sunday, 20th July 2009, I have to admit I was astonished at the mature expression of ideas and technically interesting work on display for a 20 year old! His skater scenes would appeal to a younger audience, who wouldn't normally have art on their walls but posters, and his abstract tribute to Islamic tiles, (which to me combined the feel of Rorschach ink blots with outer space shots of planet Earth, appropiate on the 40th anniversary of the Moon landing!) showed the chaos and dynamism under abstract geometrical construction principles. While I was not a huge fan of the video installation of random paint spraying over a man in a suit against a wall, it was a brave idea and technically interesting, but would have been more interesting if some random or human factor was introduced in the motion of the paint sprayer. (Maybe guided by internet global weather data?) I think Chris will be a succesful artist, and people, you should rush or and buy 'early period Chris Anderson' while it is still so cheap! Chris is a former Illawarra Grammar student who won in Year 10 the Acquisitive Art Competition in the wallet card design category with his work entitled “In the Shadows". He is also on the committee for the annual Kiama Art Society exhibition at the Kiama Leagues club in November 2009 ( all hail the power of google!)Chris currently studies a Creative arts degree at Wollongong University (on a Dean's Scholarship)and is about to spend six months as a exchange student at the University of Southern California.

Daily Horoscope for November 24

Capricorn

The Moon enters poetic Pisces today, giving you the gift of words. Those of you who play a musical instrument will find your sound is deeper and contains more feeling; release everything that you have been holding in for the past few days. Even if it means engaging in primal scream therapy in your back yard, it's time to speak.
