Shouldn't have been fired, unless he had prior disciplinary issues. Maybe he did.

He reacted that way because he was busted and didn't like some white guy confronting him.

Cameras can work for both sides, the proof is in the pudding. He threatened the guy with bodily harm and was very angry.

Our tax dollars at work.

How funny, I have seen this in California and in Arizona. Workers just standing around, talking on their cell phones, sitting etc., and it's not even lunch time! I love when the signs say "construction ahead, slow down", you get up there in the middle of rush hour traffic and there is no one in sight!

He should have been fired, he is a racist and a fool to give up a good paying job like that with a mouth he can't control.

TH is Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton when racism is uncovered? Are they racist too? Only come around when the shoe is on the other foot?

The county and city pays their public works employee's just over the minimum wage. The workers are not going to get in any hurry to get the job done, It's not like they are getting paid big dollars to hold a shovel. It takes 4 employee's to do the work of one well paid person who has good moral and attitude because he will give honest days work for

lol...race card.

You're sure he would have appreciated it more if a Black person had the camera recording his loafing?

You probably hate American Soldiers if they are Black also right?

Race is not the issue here. Big Brother's "zero tolerance" policies are. Who is to say who instigated the argybargy? Some people get their jollies by goading others. Rather than painting all public and municipal employees with the same brush, is it really out of the realm of possibility that that the man was just taking a break? Just like any blue collar stiff ?

I knew when I posted this comment that someone would chime in and cry race card. Did you actually read the story or watch any of the videos? It is plain as day what his opinions of the guy are.He was angry at being caught on video and threw racial slurs at the guy because he wanted to insult him in his anger.I agree he was angry because he was caught loafing, but to tell you the truth, I seriously doubt another black person would even bother to videotape a Brother.

And no, I don't hate anyone, regardless of skin color or if they are American Soldiers.I merely gave my opinion of what I read and saw in the video. But if you want to draw that conclusion about me, be my guest.

I think you are just looking for a fight, but you won't get one from me.

Have a nice evening.

Yes, that is a possibility. But if so, he should have had more control over himself instead of flaring up. He should have just laughed the guy off.Now he has problems because his employer saw how he was acting.Being a city employee, he represents the city.If he had just laughed the guy off or ignored him, he would have had no problem. And if the guy was harassing him and he was indeed taking a legitimate break, then he should have called the cops on him and had them run him off.

cops are city (federal and state) employees too and racial profiling is not supposed to be in their 'toolbox;' so do you think there was anything different working for this guy that day? I don't think so - he was reacting to a jerk with a camera. The fact that he was of a different race only enhanced whatever racial profiling he had already assumed to be true. Our friend with the camera was pushing the envelope, and it's too bad he didn't call the cops because I'm sure his camera or ethnicity would have had little influence on the final outcome.

This was in no way race related. I'm getting sick and tired of driving by work cites that have no one working. I was raised with something a lot of people seem to lack these days, WORK ETHIC. These guys get paid well above what private companys could pay and since we are footing the bill I expect a higher work ethic than a majority of government workers show. If they were just taking a break then they should have told the guy they were on a quick break, got back to work, or driven off. It's unbelievable there is anyone showing any amount of sympathy for these workers sitting on there a$$.

Where I come from city employees get a decent wage, so sitting around unless it's a designated break would not be tolerated. After living in Malaysia for six years it's interesting to see how they deal with issues here. We don't have a minimum wage so 10 guys will fill a pot hole, and just to make sure nobody exerts himself everyone will do a little bit of the work; and then the same pot hole will have to be refilled again in a month or so. Nothing lasts and it all wears out quickly so it has to be fixed or replaced depending up the situation. Standards, huh what are those?

It is easier to judge one's behavior without knowing the details. Did anybody consider body language of the person videotaping the employee? One can say a lot without speaking. Videotaping is intimidating for some. I agree that this employee should have walked away but not all of us are capable of walking away when intimidated by others. Some individuals consider public employees their individual servants just because they are paying taxes. This is especially true that many whites treat black public employees with disrespect and intimidation. This is based on own experience.

BS, many make very good wages. You can retire very nicely on G-18 paygrade . Just ask my neighbor when he returns from vacation again.

Yeah it was except for the fact that the camera man was riding a bike, steering with one hand and filming with another. So, I don't know how much body language he could have been giving off! It isn't something that a lot of us haven't wanted to do a time or two, and I don't care WHAT color or how MUCH they are paid!

Good points, Carly. The bottomline is that the cameraman ticked the city worker off by filming him while he was loafing. If he had been taking a legitimate break, he would have said so and he wouldn't have gotten so mad.But he didn't like being caught on camera, especially by a white person. The proof is right on tape of the workers disdain for not only filming him, but also because he was filming while white. If anyone says different they are in denial. And why is it seemingly alright and his slurs being explained away as an angry reaction, when if a white person called the worker the N word it would be considered a hate crime?

And if anyone wants to call me a racist or say that I'm using the race card, they are wrong and they need to go back and read the story as well as watch the video. The camera doesn't lie.

And yes, city workers DO loaf, I've seen plenty of it here in my own city. They do other things too, one being trimming trees in a private residents yard(who happens to be a city crony) while trimming city owned trees and that is paid for with tax payer's money.Must be nice to have connections.

Daily Horoscope for January 3

Gemini

You are in a dissatisfied mood, and are just spoiling for a fight today. However, be warned that this could backfire on you unpleasantly, especially if you take on superiors at work. At home, everyone is used to your behaviour and they generally make allowances for you, as they will today.
