Experimental conceptual artist David Askevold dead at age 67
“He would be, I would say, almost a cult figure in his degree of respect that he would have, certainly for young artists today”
- Conceptual artist David Askevold, known for his experimental photography and video work, has died. He was 67.
A spokeswoman for the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design says Askevold died after long-standing health issues.
Linda Hutchison called Askevold "a giant" in the art world, noting he brought a cutting-edge approach that crossed disciplines and pushed boundaries.
Askevold was a founding faculty member of the college, where he taught in the late 1960s and mid-'80s.
Work by the Halifax-based artist has been exhibited in galleries around the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the National Gallery of Canada. Read more
