Keaton’s Silent Classic at the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo
Back by popular demand, Bob Mitchell, who turns 96 on October 12, will return to San Luis Obispo on Saturday, October 18th, to provide the score for one of Buster Keaton’s most beloved silent feature films, The General. The evening, entitled Silents Please!, will open with a Charlie Chaplin short, The Immigrant, accompanied by the Central Coast’s Candle Light Strings.
Presented by the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival (SLOIFF) and sponsored by Bert and Candace Forbes, this event is a fundraiser for the non-profit Film Festival that continues to gain popular momentum with both locals and visitors to the Central Coast. The 15th annual SLOIFF is planned for March 6-15, 2009.
Last October, Bob Mitchell thrilled a sold-out crowd at Cal Poly University’s 1280-seat Harmon Hall, where he accompanied the 1927 version of Phantom of the Opera on the brand-new Forbes Pipe Organ. This year, he will once again play the Forbes Pipe Organ and is looking forward to returning to San Luis Obispo for his ninth time.
