Jamaica's Senate President Tom Tavares Finson said it would be a "travesty" if a petition to have United States President Barack Obama pardon Marcus Garvey of a criminal conviction does not get the required support. "It's not the first time approaches have been made to the president of the United States for his presidential pardon," Tavares Finson said at Friday's meeting of the Upper House of Parliament.

The police in western Jamaica have got the full support of stakeholders in the area as they fight to put a lid on escalating crimes in the area. The escalating crime in western Jamaica has got visitors to Jamaica's second city Montego Bay concerned, according to president of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association Omar Robinson.
