Men are invited to a launch event in Spalding tomorrow to hear about a shed project that will allow them to meet in a friendly spot to tinker on individual or community projects. Businessman Jack Tyrrell's plan to launch a Men's Shed won backing from our readers and he's holding a public meeting at the Royal British Legion Club, Long Sutton, at 7pm on Tuesday, March 14. The Men's Shed is a fast-growing, international organisation that originally started in Australia and one of the people interested in joining the Long Sutton project is London-born Ray Cutbill , who has returned to the UK after 20 years in Perth, Western Australia.
Coun Peter Coupland, who chairs the Welland Homes board, said A 3million has been earmarked to cover the cost of acquiring 15 homes in Green Lane, Spalding, with completion due next month, and to provide a further five homes in Long Sutton by March 2018. While Welland Homes Ltd is separate from the council and its housing department, the company is helping to offset the fall in the number of homes for social rent caused by the sale of council houses through Right to Buy.

While I recognise that the Pennygate Foundation is a very good idea and the work it does is excellent, I must take Brenda Wickham to task when she says she does not understand about planning permission. More than 150,000 in National Lottery cash was handed out to ten projects in South Holland and the Deepings in 2016. Councillors want more police on the streets to tackle anti-social behaviour, despite a 17 per cent fall in such crimes between 2015 and 2016. Figures from UKCrimeStats.com showed that 144 cases of anti-social behaviour were reported across Crowland and the Spalding Rural South police area in 2016, compared to 174 the previous year.
