Victims of an 81-year-old man who was jailed for several sex assaults while working for a council more than 20 years ago have said his activities were well known at the authority. Sheffield City Council apologised after Roger Dodds was jailed for 16 years for indecently assaulting five people in the city - one boy aged under 14 and four men aged 16 and over.
Jon Trickett, a West Yorkshire MP and shadow cabinet member, last week suggested Yorkshire and Humber should be given devolved powers. But Labour's MPs in Sheffield and Bassetlaw, who back existing devolution plans for the Sheffield region, were quick to point out his views do not represent those of the party.
The Government revealed the figure as it announced an extra A 980,000 to fix or prevent potholes in the 2017/18 financial year. None of the pothole money will be spent in Sheffield itself, as road repairs are covered by the council's Streets Ahead programme with Amey.
Council leaders have four months to re-run part of a consultation ruled unlawful ahead of public elections for a city region mayor on May 4. It comes after Derbyshire County Council objected to Chesterfield's application to become a full member of Sheffield City Region - and benefit from devolved powers and A 900m of funding. Now, to keep the devolution timetable on track, it will need to be re-run, and approved by Government.
Entitled "The Police Force Awakens," the spoof clip, uploaded to YouTube, compares Sheffield City Council leader Julie Dore to the film's villainous Darth Vader - while tree campaigner Dave Dillner is portrayed as rebel Obi-Wan Kenobi in the video. Using the sci-fi franchise's famous scrolling intro, the 1.37 clip, entitled STAG WARS tells of the ongoing battle between the Sheffield Trees Action Group , the council and contractor Amey which has been tasked with the controversial job of felling hundreds of the city's trees.
