The death toll from a bomb blast at a market in a mainly Shiite area of Pakistan's northwestern tribal belt has risen to 24, officials said yesterday. The explosion, which occurred on Saturday in Parachinar, capital of the Kurram tribal district, initially killed 20 people and was claimed by the Pakistani Taliban.
The slender, soft-spoken young man with a wide smile and strong disposition has dwelled in and walked through hell. He now strolls the burnished halls of Indian River Central High School, seemingly carefree.
Peshawar, Jan 21: At least 15 people were killed and 30 others injured today in a blast at a vegetable market in northwest Pakistan's restive Kurram Agency, officials said. The blast took place at the crowded Sabzi Mandi inside Eidgah Bazaar in Parachinar, the administrative headquarters of the agency near the Afghan border.

By RIAZ KHAN Associated Press PESHAWAR, Pakistan - A bomb exploded Saturday in a market in a northwestern tribal region that borders Afghanistan, killing at least 18 people and wounding at least 51. Dr. Sabir Hussain at the Parachinar main hospital said 11 critically wounded people who were brought from the vegetable market blast site died while being treated. He said several of the wounded were in serious condition and being shifted to other hospitals for better care.
Kurram is one of the most sensitive tribal areas as it borders three Afghan provinces and at one point was one of the key routes for militant movement across the border. It has witnessed scores of attacks.
PESHAWAR, Pakistan: An explosion in a busy vegetable market killed at least 21 people on Saturday in Pakistan's remote northwestern tribal region, an official said. About 40 others were wounded in the blast in Kurram region, near the border with Afghanistan, said Sajid Hussain Turi, member of the National Assembly from the region.
