Bengaluru, Jan 23 The Income Tax department has detected undisclosed assets worth over Rs 162 crore and seized Rs 41 lakh cash, besides over a dozen kg in gold and jewellery during searches on the premises of a Karnataka minister and state Mahila Congress chief. Officials said the department has also got inputs about a number of "benami" assets and "unexplained investments" during the searches at the premises of Small Scale Industries Minister Ramesh L Jarkiholi and Mahila Congress president Laxmi R Hebbalkar in Gokak, Belgaum and here last week.

Bangalore, Jan. 17: Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar today observed that the Left and progressive groups in the country were not strong enough to contain the right-wing politics of the BJP. Although unhappy with the way the Left and progressive groups have so far fared in providing a counter-check to the BJP's growth, Sarkar contented that "we are on the right path" and insisted that the anti-fascist groups have not surrendered before the onslaught of the "Hindutva" allies.
