you will have to zoom in to see the red on it.. I looks to me like three red dots on the back. I know that most female widows have the red hour glass on the belly and males are usually alot smaller with the red hour glass on the back.. What do you guys think?

A black widow can have a yellow OR red hourglass on the back and ONLY the females have these marks and ONLY the females are venomous. Black widows are NOT deadly. They are like bees and scorpions, they are only deadly if you are allergic, elderly or a small child.

Thank you! Could you get a good look at the pic? Does this look like a female to you? Notice the dead spiders in the web too. Is that significant? It just really worries me with the girls and all. The first one we found was in the closet. We keep their toys in a closet and it like a little play room for them and im just affraid one of them might try to pick a spider up or something!

btw, bug man is mostly correct except you do not have to be allergic. A black widow pruduces a protein based neurotoxin. Allergy has nothing to do with it. Symptoms of a bite can be as small as abdominal cramps to respiratory failure.

When I was going through SF Medical training in the Military, I had to learn about all the different poisonous bugs, snakes, plants, etc. even things like Centpedes which are not poisonous, but they have an acid that eats holes into the skin where the feet are and 2ndary infection can be a problem with them.

back to Wodows. Typically a female widow will be the ONLY one for 100 yards many males though and they prefer damp and dark places.

here is a link.. did it look like this?
