You know Gary, time passes so fast for some and
more slowly for others...I never thought about
it being almost 29 years since that awful tragey,
but since you mentioned it, I just realized how
fast time is passing for me! My son just turned
25 years old last May and that awful accident
took place about four years before he was born
in 1986...your dad almost died in that wreck too,
I can't forget seeing him in so much pain all the
time after the wreck. I never did learn what became of the person who ran over Gary's car, but
from what you just said, it looks like he got off
way too easy! Your mom was a very sweet person and
Gary Gene was no doubt my very favorite second
cousin of all time...I miss him a lot, and I think
of Johnny quite often too...yet things happen and
we have to live the best we know how...Only the
Good Lord has the answers and He will make them
known to us all in due time.

Gary, I can definitely understand how you feel. I lost my Great Grandfather and my Dad's youngest sister in a crash that involved a drunk driver. My Aunt had just taken herself, her daughter, my Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother for my 93 year old Great Grandfathers annual checkup with the doctors. He was given a clean bill of health and told that he was in remarkable shape for a 93 year old man. He still gardened and mowed his own lawn with a riding mower. Many of us had offered to do the mowing for him but he enjoyed doing it himself and always declined our offers to help. Anyway on their way home from his checkup a 19 year old man who had been drinking quite a bit crossed the center line and hit my Aunt's car sending her car into a culvert. The car caught fire and my Aunt and my Great Grandfather who were riding in the front seats were trapped and burned to death in the car. My Great Grandmother and my cousin( my Aunts daughter) were in the backseat and while my younger cousin came out with only minor injuries my great Grandmother was paralyzed from the waist down due to injuries sustained in the wreck. That has been several years ago and I pass the young man responsible on the road quite frequently as he only got a slap on the wrist and I get physically sick everytime I see this person. He is still out drinking and enjoying his life after he changed my entire families lives forever. We lost my Great Grandfather and my Aunt and my Great grandmother lost the use of her legs for the rest of her life and my cousin that was in the accident not only lost her Mother but had to stand by and watch her Mother and Great Grandfather burn up alive in the car they were trapped in. Something needs to be done about the drunk driving. This accident did not only turn me against drunk driving but it also turned me against alcohol altogether. I often just wonder how long my Great Grandfather would have lived had it not been for a careless drunk driver. My Grandmother was never the same after this accident that cost her not only her Father and sister, but it also caused her mother, my Great Grandmother to be bedfast for the remainder of her life. For 11 years my Grandmother tended to her Mothers every need and she also raised her neice that lost her own Mother in that accident. This one careless drunk driver devestated 3 generations of my family and I personally know the pain that it causes and I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am that you have also had to go through this horrible loss. We will be together with our loved ones again in HEAVEN someday. that is the only good thing that I can think of to comfort myself when I think about this. I wish you all the best Gary and i am terribly sorry for the losses you have had to endure.
