George Kass, Steinburgs, Street & Mobbs, Loftin's Western Auto, West Chevrolet, Popes, Blaclwelder, Miller Hardware, Barnette's Snack shack. A lot of businesses in Piedmont back then. This was just a few on this street, many more on Cente Ave.

My first bike came from Street & Mobbs. And my dad bought a 22" wizard mower from Western Auto, I bet he used that thing for 20 years.
I don't think the sky gets that blue anymore, either.

I liked Street & Mobbs But I had more dealings with Mr. Loftin at Western Auto. Even as a kid, I could wheel and deal with him. He would take used stuff in on sells them would sell it or trade with kids like me. Over the years I did a lot of trading with him, most of the time he would make the profit. As far as I can remember, most of our deals, he would get anywhere from a dime to a dollar. I think he just enjoyed wheeling and dealing with the kids. Even as an adult, I enjoyed doing business with him. Many times I didn't have the money but the first time he gave me credit, he told me, if you make your payments on time or if for some reason you can't let me know. He treated me right.

Another I liked doing business with was Mr Strickland at Strickland's Hardware, at that time I played with TVs and he would always check the tubes and would always sell new ones reasonable. Also bought a lot of lawnmower and car parts from him. His son John is also good to deal with.
