My parents, and my maternal grandparents would turn in their graves if they could see this beautiful church CHAINED!!!!! This is such a disgrace, so upsetting. My mother was born in Nesquehoning, New Columbus. Her whole family went to Our Lady Of Mount Carmel church. Baptisms, Communions, Confirmations, Weddings, Funerals, etc. I went there since I was a little girl, celebrating St. Theresa's day in October of every year and many other events. What a terrible shame, I guess if Monsignor Angelo Angelini was alive now, this would have definety killed him. Why is another priest living in the church right now and remodeling, sounds a little crooked to me???? Time for some investigation.

The chains are down, and have been down for a while. Fr Tony lives in the Rectory because the IHM Sisters still live in the old rectory downtown ... the remodeling that is being done is work that needs to have been done years ago ... I don't think any remodeling was done since Msgr. had it built in the 60s! He built it to last.

The nuns were invited there by Fr. Tucci, and in all these years there they have provided spiritual counsel for many and a home for other Sisters who just wanted a retreat. You'd be surprised how many people come to the Nuns for comfort and to talk --- when Sr. Donna was there they even did a centering prayer or some sort of study. They are good ladies and the provide a prayer base for our community.

I am sorry to hear that you haven't had a chance to get to know the IHM sisters yet. Because IF you did, you would never have said that "they don't do anything anyhow". The IHMs are a great comfort to many, many families and do many unspoken, unpublicized acts of kindness, generosity and love. In the rollercoaster of the times we are living in now in Nesquehoning, they are the one constant - the one sure thing that we can all rely on - that they will be praying for us and for SFA. I THANK GOD that the Sisters are praying for us and I hope and pray that they NEVER leave Nesquehoning. It would be a huge loss to all of us.
