Here is something that shows how little 'mini-farms' can be located anywhere to supplement your diet with fresh vegetables.

I have to attest that vegetables grown from your own garden or plot DO taste better than supermarket-purchased items.

Much of Montebello, and especially the otherwise agriculturally unproductive Hills, produced flowers for decades in the early part of the city's 90+ year existence. The early Catholic Missionaries report that the Hill located San Gabriel Mission was a very productive agricultural and ranching enterprise, and was only moved to get away from unfriendly Indians and closer to a large water well.

Before being covered by homes, the incredibly fertile soil of the San Gabriel Valley was a more productive agricultural region than the San Joaquin Valley.
