i don't care what other people say, wild life flocks to these reclaimed sites. i've seen it myself time and time again. i see bear, deer and turkeys all the time. birds of prey come in the fall and winter to catch rabbits, mice and other small creatures that make it there home. we have been seeing a very nice buck on one of our sites that has been reclaimed, i bet he will go at least 150 inches and he's not through growing his antlers yet. he is just one of the bucks we have been seeing there.thank for a great picture, keep it up.goodwrench.

yes, that's true, goodwrench. notice, however, only one type plant life, in this particulare pic. i do believe deer and bear eat more types of plantlife, including many different trees and bushes, than anyone can count. and also, where's the berries for the bears? you know im not slamming mtr, just the reclamation. there has got to be something can be done about this, other than hugging a tree.(not particularly effect on saving that particular tree, i would think.) i hope someone posts a pic this fall when the trees are in color of a reclaimed mtr site. reclamation should be what is focused on, not mtr's massive job source. why isn't that doable? is it THAT expensive? seeds and seedlings. and oh, the jobs! and i have to say it bothers me when a hard working miner, doing a job, could care less what he leaves behind. i know you , goodwrench, and hopefully some others, understand what i'm saying. but some of these guys, don't care what they leave behind, including their garbage. you know i'm right. i hope?

some companies don't do a very good job of reclaiming others do a great job. i wish the state would enforce the reclamation laws so it would be done right. the one's who don't do a good job of it give the one's who do a good job a bad name. deer graze these sites and the bears roam eating the berries and hunting small rodents. the turkys do what i call buggin'. they roam the fields catching and eating the insects that are there. in the taller scrub brush and grass we have hundreds of rabbits. the trees will grow back, it's just a matter of time. the trees that are planted, are the ones that grow fast or provide nutrients back in to the soil, like locus. they use a hearty grass because they need it to hold the soil in place. some sites have been used to create wet lands in places that have none. did you know west virginia has no natural lakes. all the lakes in wva are man made. for the people who don't believe this about the lakes, look it up.
