Construction on the building is 95% complete and the parking lot will be overlaid with new asphalt this week. The beautification project was made possible with the help of the city's Economic Development Corporation and Board Members. Without their help, financing for the project would have been imposable. La Porte's vision of having a robust Main Street business district just got one step closer to reality.
My wife Mary and I would like to thank the city for their help. Without their support, our building would still be a ratty old ice house with a rut filled parking lot.

That's cool and all... it's just a shame the City could not do the same for the people with blue tarps.

I'd think they would put the residents first.

Were there any stings that came with the loan?

Are you a La Porte resident or just a local business owner?

Congratulations on the revitalization... it DOES look much better than it did!

Taxpayers should not be paying for the renovation of private commercial property, even by 1/2. If the business owner was aware his property was ratty, old, and pot hole filled, he could have, and should have, worked on it over time to clean it up.

I think the only thing that the City did was help with the facade. This is definitely acceptable. I wish other businesses on Main Street would take up the offer also. A presentable downtown will attract customers and customers will increase the sales tax. Makes sense.
