That is not a picture of Kennedy in Kermit WV. The only Esso was Peake's and that sure isn't there. I was in Kermit Grade School when he came there. He rode on the train.

I also was in grade school at that time.That is not Peakes Esso station.And look at all the school kids lined up,they did not let the kids out to go up there.He did come on the train,there was no motorcade,and he stayed around the old depot station shaking hands.He did go in the old fountain to get a fountain drink because I remember Lionel Stepp talking about it.I don't know where the pic was taken but it was not Kermit.

I'd love to see on in Kermit though.. Maybe someone with access to one can get it online.

If you will look closer at the Kennedy Pic,you will notice the Esso station has 2 garage bay doors Peakes has only one,plus there is 3 black people in the crowd there was none living near Kermit at that time.This must be Matewan or another town where black people lived at that time perjiod.
