The Demont train tunnel at Quicksand. The community at the tunnel was once called Inverness, the end of the line. The winters of 1977 and 1978 were two of the coldest in modern times. This scene was made in 1978

There use to be some houses up in the holler not too far from the tunnel, but I don't know if they're still standing. Chester and his family lived in one of the hollers, not too far from the tunnel.

I believe there was a train wreck back in the 50s not too far from the tunnel, I think between Stray Branch holler and the tunnel. They said the engines went into the river, spilling tons of coal along the bank and in the river.

There were houses in hollows called: Stray Branch(the hollow across from the old drive in)and the first small hollow that forked off to the left going up Stray Branch was called Bear Branch. Also a few old houses were located down past Earl Backs(deceased)house(which is now for sale for $125,000.00)on the actual quarter mile road on down to Dumont Tunnel on the Quicksand side.If you walk through the tunnel to the Kragon side, the first hollow walking toward Haddix on your right, along the railroad tracks is Stillhouse branch. But I am not sure if any old houses were in Stillhose Branch. The other side of Dumont Tunnel is across the river 1500 ft above the Bailey Center, going up route 15 south toward Hazard.
