I ran across this photo by chance.
If memory serves me, that's the roof of my old
high school. Am I right ?

No - the picture is from a location on Conley Hill not the high school hill.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Chalk that mistake up to the fact that, sadly, I haven't been back to Gauley Bridge in decades. I have passed by,
however, on the train on the other side of the
Kanawha river.
As to Conley hill, I did live there for a while,
almost next door to the Vaught residence. I also
lived in the big city of Boomer.
I remember my senior year at GBHS with very good
memorie. I now live in Kent, WA and in Las Vegas, NV. Norris Weese, one of my fellow '53 grads lived
across Puget Sound in Bremerton, WA. Sadly, he passed away a few short years ago.

Funny - my family lived very close to the Vaughts also - their big house on the corner of the hill. Mr. and Mrs. Vaught were special people. He was always working his gardens and he was a great teacher. We also moved out of Gauley sometime ago. Most of my brothers and sisters graduated during the 60's. Never been to Washington but someday I would love to travel east. Never been to Las Vegas either - you know what they say "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas". Yea, guess you heard that! Have a great weekend and nice to write to a fellow GBHS student.

Thanks for your response. The only names I remember
from Conley Hill are Mr. Vaught, his daughter
Rosanna (we marched together at graduation) and Mr. Beaver, who lived next door to us on the downhill side.
I played on the basketball and baseball teams.
Too small and too skinny for football..ha
GB had quite a football team in '53 though..won
all but one game...lost to Clay 7-0. The best part
was they beat Montgomery 20-0. We kicked them around a little bit in baseball too.
