Can the elected officals in this town hit a "horsehoe" on this poop problem. I think this event, as pictured, would be great, and realistic, for the upcoming Mountain Heritgae Day'...

Fort Gay to celebrate heritage day

By JON ATWOOD
Staff Writer

FORT GAY – To Sandy Hammond, Fort Gay Mountain Heritage Day feels like going back to high school and hanging out with her old friends.
Something she doesn’t get to do too often.
“You catch up on what’s going on with them, and you renew old friendships and things,” Hammond said.
With music, food, merchandise and more, Fort Gay will continue its Mountain Heritage Day tradition, which began almost 40 years ago, this Saturday.
The event will include a parade, which begins at 10 a.m. and lasts half-an-hour to 45 minutes. The activities on the lawn go on until about 4 p.m., after which alumni can join each other inside the common area for finger food. Music played during the day will include John Stevens, Yesterday’s Gospel, Sacred Melodies, Rick Mays, John Thornsbury and the Larkin Family.
Hammond, who has been on the Fort Gay Mountain Heritage Day Committee for the last nine years, moved to Louisa a few months ago after living in Fort Gay all her life. Still, she works on and attends the event every year to help preserve the friendships of the old high school.
“It’s just a time when former students come back for reunion,” Hammons said.“We just have some activities, and people can just come and enjoy their day.” More on Front Page For more on this story and many others, subscribe to the WCN or the WCN e-paper today!
