2nd FPPC Violation

United States

#1 Sep 2, 2010
This appears to be a picture of the sign Yzaguirre used to advertise his campaign. It will be interesting to see what kind of punishment the FPPC hands out since Yzaguirre has already received a warning letter for a previous conflict of interest violation on a vote he took at the IVDA regarding Vanir/Dominguez. What's amazing is that while he has claimed in the past that he brought the Dominguez Plaza project to Colton, now all of a sudden he claims he doesn't know anything about it. Which is it? The project went on for 6 years while he worked for Vanir/Dominguez and he's been on the City Council for over 3 years and yet he claims he had no idea Dominguez was receiving hundreds of thousands in taxpayer dollars from the City of Colton. He actually has the nerve to say this was a frivolous complaint. I don't think the FPPC is going to take to kindly to an elected official calling a serious violation of California election law "frivolous."
Best way

I remember that sign display. After flashing "Colton City Council", it flashed "Vote Vote Vote", "Vincent Yzaguirre". You can see it in the 2Sept. 2010 issue of the Colton City News. How can he say that this isn't an 'In kind donation'? What it is, he got caught again and is trying to wiggle out of it. The arrogance of this man is overwhelming. I hope they give him the max penalty this time($5000)to bring him back down to earth with the rest of the people who have to follow the law.

I was wondering when the subject of that sign was going to come up. I guess this is the best time to ensure that the mayor, or any of her hand pick candidates for open council seats, try the same illegal practice. I'm sure they would do it again if nobody said anything. Thanks to those who filed the complaint.

Word is that Yzaguirre's campaign treasurer Eddie Martinez, who is also Yzaguirre's appointed Colton Planning Commissioner has suddenly resigned from the Planning Commission. Interesting to note that Mr. Martinez is also the Property Manager at Dominguez Plaza where the sign in question is located. HMMM... must be just a coincidence since Yzaguirre stated in the Colton Courier that he had already spoken to the FPPC and they agreed with him that no violation had occurred.
