I feel that the Waldo Hotel should be saved. It would make a wonderful Clarksburg Events Center with a restaurant on the top floor, convention center on the fifth floor and hotel rooms and offices below. Clarksburg could then be able to host conventions and meeting again. Definitely the roof would have to be replaced, and it would need a new HVAC system, and heating system, and new electrical wiring, but the building could be restored slowly as a restaurant goes in, and hotel chain is found. Some of them would probably pay the remodeling costs for their areas in the Waldo. Waldo Hotel would make a great economic addition to Clarksburg.

It does sound like a good idea. The thing is the money it would be so astronomical would take entirely to long to make back or pay off.Therefor it scares any investors. A lot of exterior would have to be replaced , same I'm sure for inside . Not just remodeled. The theater would be best bet with a restaurant , parking all around and I believe would be used . Plays, comedians and other speakers would attract ppl and maybe even some investors . A millions a lot easier to round up than say 5-10 for Waldo. My opinion.

I remember back in the 60's, my father opened a strip club there, "The Riverboat"

Hope the Waldo can be saved. So much of Clarksburg's rich history is gone. It is sad, not everyone thinks about history or has a desire to save it. Have seen this happen in so many small towns. WV could learn from VA, so many great little historical towns that have been preserved.

This might sound harsh....
But people actually WANT to move to these towns in VA.
Never once EVER have I heard someone from another State say "Gee, I'd just love to move to WV".
