He never let go of that stick, the whole day.
He was quite a dog:
He would sleep next to a fire, and when a spark lit his fur on fire, he'd wake up, lick the spot, and go back to sleep- without moving away from the fire.
He also would jump out of a poke boat, retrieve a duck, and then get back in with help, without tipping the kayak- in January.
We used to take him mountain biking too.

This is a fine example of a real dog. Another Chesapeake that a friend had would run down a mountain at night, chasing a tennis ball thrown using a 'chuck-it'. The ball would go hundreds of feet down each time, and each time the dog would find it and bring it back- until everyone at the party was too tired to repeat. Just ridiculous how determined and tough these dogs can be, while having the good, loving disposition of a lab. BTW- these dogs have webbed feet for better swimming. No kidding.
