Are they still going to restore the courthouse back to the 1888? I understood they would be allowing the public to vote on it next year but haven't heard anything more.

Yes, the citizens of Fannin County will be asked to vote for the restoration of the courthouse. The county received a grant from the Texas Historical Commission to have plans and specifications done. Architexas of Dallas is in the process of preparing those plans. The plans will then be sent to the THC for review. After all of the plans are completed, we will have a more accurate "estimate" of what it will cost to restore the courthouse. Fannin County is eligible to receive up to $6 million dollars to help with the project. If the project comes in at $10 million...the citizens will need to come up with the remaining funds. I'm the chairman of the Restoration Committee. I will be happy to answer any and all questions about the courthouse. My only plea is to NOT listen to rumors about the cost of restoration. When I know the total costs...I will let everyone know.

I doubt that taxpayers of Fannin county will approve a huge tax increase for a restored courthouse, that is still too small, when they wouldn't approve a college that would have cost less.

I agree, no way in hell this thing will pass if the college didn't pass.

My main concern about spending so much on a restored courthouse is that we will still not have enough space....there will be much more money required to provide room for the employees in other locations. They are already scattered all over town. A restoration would be beautiful and historical but would just be the beginning of what we need for an efficient, usable facility, especially if by some chance Fannin Co. grows any in the future.
