I thought this was Bay Farm island. They built something like this. I havn't lived in Alameda for 20 years now. I guess the base area is up and coming. Seems silly, but if there is any truth to Global Warming and ice burgs melting and water rising, Alameda is going to be 6 feet under water in about 40 years. You better start building them sea walls now :) PS, I remember when this area was the old Section 8 project housing way back in the early 70s. You had a boat construction factory (The old brick building) and of course most of you remember the old Drive Inn and the Old railroad bone yard off of main. They were just starting to develope this area when I left but I do remember the largest building in Alameda was that 15-16 story Apartment building on the waters edge. I'm guessing it's still the tallest thing out there. I hope they turn the Naval Base into a large park like Golden Gate park with a few business buildings as to bring in Jobs for the locals on west side of Alameda. That area needs help since the navy base closed and Webster Street is kind of a ghost town now.
