Everybody knows Whites are better looking and most non-Whites would do anything to look White. That's why skin bleach, tinted contacts, hair relaxer, and procedures to give people Caucasian features are such huge moneymakers.

They may be just saying that he underwent skin rejuvenation processes for the purpose of sensationalis,to make people say "wow look at how his skin color has changed from dark to light". When in actuality there is nothing uncommon about a person going from kind of medium brown skin,like he was, to light skin like he became.Ever heard of sun tan? Lots of people are normally the sort of light olive color that he became after his supposedly skin rejuvenation treatment,but they can get pretty dark skinned after a summer tan.I and others I know are of an olive complexion,but have at times tanned dark enough to be medium brown skin in summer or tropical sun. I'm suspecting same thing occured with him.I don't believe this story about his skin rejuvenation story.They'll say anything to make a story.Have to take much in the media with a grain of salt really.

The only thing is,when Sammy came from the Dominican Republic,he was a brown colored man.He wasn't very light to begin with.If he was light and underwent a procedure to remove damage,we wouldn't even be having this dialogue.Because of the clear difference in appearance,compared to his earlier Cub baseball days,it's clear he's been altered greatly.If you could show me older pics of Sammy donning anything close to his new skin tone,I'd concede what you're saying.The problem is,neither you,nor I could produce these pictures.

Chicago has all the seasons to deal with.If a person in colder months loses shades of color,it could only be so many shades of color.But then,why didn't Sammy look radically different from himself throughout his playing days with the Cubs,admist being exposed to the seasons in Chicago?So much for the idea of receiving a deep tan or being weather-beaten.

He's undergone an extreme depigmentation and the new hair and contacts only support that he isn't trying to gain back his former self.The underlying factors suggest that he's trying to be something he's not;a white or lighter skinned person.I mean,the contacts and tightly straightened hair all on top of his new color(laughs).I hope this whole situation dies down,but I don't see it being down played any time soon.

Why does "lightening the skin" get so much backlash and yet the other self mutilating procedures don't? Is it seen as more drastic than breast/chin/peck implants, face lifts, hair removal, liposuction etc., etc., etc.?

Maybe skin lightening is the equivalent to those drastic face jobs we see sometimes. Where is the line? At what point is a "self improvement" procedure seen as a disorder?

No thanks. I'm aging wonderfully and we tend to have beautiful youthful skin for a very long time. If what you say is true, then why are butt implants, lip implants, and tanning so popular? Who are people who get those procedures trying to emulate? White people get colored contacts and they perm their hair to remove straightness. Some people just want what they don't have, nothing more. Does someone exist with low self-esteem? Yes. Just don't think for a second that all black people want to be white, or that we all find white people to be the most attractive.
