Obama Ghana Speech: FULL TEXT

Full story: www.huffingtonpost.com

Here are President Obama's remarks, as prepared for delivery, from his speech to Ghana's parliament, Saturday July 11, 2009. Good morning. It is an honor for me to be in Accra, and to speak to the representatives of the people of Ghana. I am deeply grateful for the welcome that I've received, as are Michelle, Malia, and Sasha Obama. Ghana's history is rich, the ties between our two countries are strong, and I am proud that this is my first visit to sub-Saharan Africa as President of the United States. I am speaking to you at the end of a long trip. I began in Russia, for a Summit between two great powers. I traveled to Italy, for a meeting of the world's leading economies. And I have come here, to Ghana, for a simple reason: the 21st century will be shaped by what happens not just in Rome or Moscow or Washington, but by what happens in Accra as well.

I know Topix seems to be festered with the political illiterate but one of the hope I had on the election of President Obama is to see some shift in emphasis on the political association between America/Western Countries with the African continent. For me too often over the past couple of centuries it has been one that has been unevenly yolked.
The Western countries have used and abused The continent and its people and in this new age of educational awareness the truth of this association can no longer be hidden. The illogical part of this association is that this practice has failed to advance the positive progress of mutual existence and progress.Today we see that western governments are now reliant on eastern countries for growth and trade due to the fact that over the last couple of decades some level of divisive politics have been curtailed. The same cannot be said for Africa because of less stable forms of governments and representation of its people. This has not been a mere coincidence ,but and orchesterated connivance of western banks and governments to collude with corrupt African leaders.
Billions of dollars cannot be moved around the world without the facilitating of these services by major institutions. The socalled Aid that has been given back to African countries only constitute a small fraction of the total sum that has been misappropriated.
We now need clear and open associations between government and people so appraisal can be accorded by ordinary citizens of both devide.Africa is in danger of being engulfed in the war on terrorism, but the greatest terrorist to the African people is the lack of opportunities to build a coeherant society where the majority of its people live in expectation of a worthwile living that the hope of mere existence.
The African continent is still relatively underpopulated and have enough resources for its people to have all the basic necessities of life.We can only hope that the new administration can see Africans less of the convenient victims but more of a partner in the exchange of trade for the benefit of all its people. It is a sad reflection on society when one can toil in Africa for a week and his income will only cover the cost of a meal in Western countries.

Only foolish Africans with no will and plans to take their countries to the next level think Obama's visit is good news. Obama is an American and an American president, he is in Africa to serve American interests. I would be very happy if he never makes a turn this side, we don't need such distraction.

No matter what he says and does, he is still the President of the US which evidently means that his allegience lies with SIGs within the US.

"No business wants to invest in a place where the government skims 20 percent off the top."

That right there, I believe, is where his main interest lies.

Not to be ethnic (though Westerners pay no such respect to Africans/blacks), but his speach was nothing other than a replica of those of other Jewish-backed leaders like the Frenchman Sarkozy.
