EUR This N That - Urban Black News Blog: Dishin' Dirt on the ABFF

What’s up y’all? Here is the dirt ... Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to check out the ABFF in Miami. While there I got a chance to go to the HBO sponsored short film competition and let me tell ya…there were some AWESOME films in the competition. My personal favorite (and the winner) was The Roe Effect, written by Kiel Adrian Scott. This particular film was so DEEP and so HEAVY that I didn’t know whether to clap or cry. The young man who created the film is a BRILLIANT filmmaker and I see him doing BIG things in the industry. Okay, I wasn’t going to say anything BUT hell, I’ll make it a blind item. I had the opportunity to do a brief interview with a prominent movie director who initially cussed me out on the street. The South Central native was so aggressive and ignorant that he scared me. It wasn’t until another guy was like, “damn man” that this director changed his tone. Without going into the entire story, I will just say that I had heard rumors about him but I never believed any of it until I experienced it myself. Needless to say, I was hurt because this is one of the very few “Hollywood” dudes that I looked up to. His behavior was not only disappointing but it was disrespectful and pissed me off. A few seconds after he cussed me out, he tried to apologize without actually saying “I’m sorry.” Instead, he put his arm around me and told me that he was willing to answer my questions. At that point, the damage had already been done. To my readers, please know that most times the folks you think you love in the industry are usually the biggest azzholes.
