If it is a private club, they should be able to do what they want to. I only hope that those who pay for the privilege of being a member of the club also drop out forcing the club to go out of business. Otherwise, these are the consequences of not having your own and relying on others to provide for you. If you depend on others for ‘stuff’ expect to be shortchanged and even cheated. I do not believe for one second the parents were told they do not allow minorities. I understand how one could make the assumption, but I do not accept that someone who represents the club would be so brash. Get you own personal pool; I had one. I am an ethnic minority (black). You could never deny me the comforts of my own pool and hot tub. We as a people complain so much about not being included when we fail to see our very own opportunities to provide for ourselves. It is not the responsibility of this private club to provide our children a place or facility to have fun. It is the responsibility of the parents to make this happen. They may be racists, but they have a right to be that. I think it is despicable. But, why would you want to be a member of a club that does not want you to be there. It seems unintelligible?

Exactly...it's 1955 again. The more things change, the more they stay the same. I get your point, but it’s the principle of the matter. This is how black people ever overcame anything, if someone didn’t do the “sit-ins”, raise up concerns and be upset about something---just simply think if someone didn’t stand up for injustice like this that existed against people of color before, then I dare say we could still be forced to sit in the back of someone’s bus when like a professor of mine says lovingly, all the time “Your money is as green as the next man’s money.”

I find it interesting that no one is objective enough to think that there could be a simple behaviourial issue behind all of this.

I hear you, but the point you're missing is they PAID to use the private pool, which advertises open memberships. They were not asking for a handout.

Thank you, and well said....sometimes the Clarence Thomas-types are so eager to paint the Black victims as NOT the victims. So are to push across a prima facie -- "God bless the child that has their own.." propaganda... The Clarence Thomas-look alike failed to realize the simple fact that if these parents PAID their money - then OBVIOUSLY the club appeared to express an OPEN MEMBERSHIP POLICY - therefore the club is legally liable... and should be sued into the next century... I don't think these parents decided.."Gee, this is a Whites-only club, let me pay to send my child in to swim.." ,...Clowns and idiots are simply, clowns and idiots here for our laughter....

This happened to me and my sisters back in the early 70"s.It was actually a public swimming pool. The boys and girls club to be exact. All the AA children were asked to leave. The church leaders in the community took the city of North Little Rock to task and made changes.I still refused to go back after the fact.It just did'nt feel right anymore. Why go somewhere you're not wanted? Why pay your money to an establishment that hates you...Makes no sense to me.

I can charge a fee to entire my home, and the kick you out! It's my private home. I charge people to offer an application to rent one of my dwellings. And, I can still refuse them as a tenant because I do not deem them worthy. It's my right.

Here's the problem, as I see it. That club exists in a community and requires the services of taxpayers of all races, religions, etc. Take an extreme case. Let's say there is a war. When soldiers fight for this country the casualty toll doesn't segregate on the basis of race. That club enjoys the protection of Black soldiers: dead and injured. Why should people who enjoy the protection of soldiers, firemen, policemen, social services, etc.--all paid for with the blood and dollars of Black taxpayers--be allowed to discriminate on the basis of race?

I'm not justifying what was done to the children at all. What I'm trying to get your rude, uncle Tom ass to understand is this. Why continue to complain about how bad a certain group of people treat you, then continue to go out of your way to socialize with them? You should think before you post another "We the vicitm again thread."

You should go back there because your tax dollars are used to support that facility. You should go back and demand that they respect you and your family. I have been through similar at public schools on Long Island. God Bless!

Excellent question; and the answer is because they are private! Even private clubs pay taxes that support public schools, fire, police, and representation.

The only behavioral issue involved was the behavior of the white people who pulled their kids out of the pool when the Black kids got there. And as for whether they were told that minorities were not allowed in the club.... I saw a post from a Jewish man who was told by that same club that Jews were not allowed, so why is it so hard to believe the parents were told this as well? And the man in charge of the club actually had the nerve to say they were afraid the kids would change the "complexion" of the club. So right there, you have it.... he was worried about the "complexion" of the club... complexion=skin tone=color. How much clearer does he have to make it for these apologists to stop coming out of the woodwork saying it is not racism??
