Obamas Head to Martha's Vineyard (Cause for Controversy?)

Full story: www.thesaudavoice.com

Earlier this week, New York Magazine published an article entitled Black and White on Martha's Vineyard by Toure. Apparently, this article has created quite a bit of buzz and controversy in the African American community. Here is one excerpt from the piece: "In 1912, a former slave named Charles Shearer opened the first summer inn in Oak Bluffs that catered specifically to black patrons. Only a few dozen blacks visited the island at the time, but over the years Oak Bluffs has become the summer meeting place for scores of what could be called the Only Ones—black professional and social elites who travel in worlds where they’re often the only black person in the room. The Only Ones typically break into fields or companies that admit few blacks, move into neighborhoods where few blacks live, and send their kids to mostly white schools. They are not running from their own—they’re chasing after the best they can get. They aren’t assimilationist; they’re ascensionist"

and yet when bush jr. flew back and forth to his ranch and when he stood still while america was under attack, no one had a word to say. excuse a man for trying to get some culture and not be ignorant like most of this country.

the president, by the very nature of his position, is anything but "common". that's why we elected him.
we can get the "common touch" from earl at the butcher shop.
i've worked for people who are like those described in that snippet above, they lack a lot more than the common touch

Funny how during the campaign he WAS the "common man",ran on it,capitolized on it. Made a big deal about it. Now he has "Town Hall meetings" staged with picked audiences just like the very man he derided for it. But hey,not to worry. His policies and broken promises will, within a year, have people questioning each other who voted for HIM? And those that DID will just shrug their shoulders and say,"I dunno.",kick gravel and look into space...... Yes Dear one short year from now you will be sending your paycheck to Washington and he will say,as he gives you back what HE thinks you need, here's your CHANGE.....

as if everything bad that has happened, happend within the past five months and ten days?

still don't know how he's not "common" by vacationing at martha's vineyard. wouldn't be my cup of tea, but i know some who do spend their summers up there. my old boss is one of them, and another twit who used to work at that company was quoted in the article. they're about a "common" as anyone else who has achieved their level of professional success.

Everything bad that has happened-has been 30 odd years in the making, maybe longer. And I really could care less where the Dude takes a vacation. I just find it ironic as he77 for someone who ran a campaign as well as his on being Mr. Regular Joe would become Mr. Instant Elite. Unless the basis was already there, thus proving what was batted around in SOME circles.

Of course Obama is visiting Martha's Vineyard. That is where his bosses live! You know, all the Goldman Sachs past and present CEO'S and Top Share Holders. And let's not forget the Owners of the Private Federal Reserve Bank in America. Yes, they all have homes there too.

He needs to get his instructions for the next 60 days.

i don't have a problem with people enjoying things their work has afforded them.

just because you vacation at martha's vineyard does that AUTOAMATICALLY make you an elitist jackass?

personally, i won't say "automatically".
