Ruben Navarrette: Obama should connect with Latino voters

Obama would be wise to avoid latino's and their agenda. They always seem to pick the losers.

1. They choose to rally and that blew up in their face and exposed them.

2. They supported Bush and you know the rest.

3. They supported Hillary Clinton and we see where she is now.

4. lastly they helped elect Mexico/Latin America leadership (Disaster)

These people are to dumb to make logical choices. They're huge racist (anti black), therefore Obama should simply ignore those idiots.

Anyone who wants amnesty for a group of law breakers who use phony or stolen documents to slip through the system, I'd say is not a loyal American. We are great because we are a nation of laws first and foremost. We were once greater than we are today because we were united in being "American" and speaking one language, English" We are now divided and no longer a "melting pot".

Obama has already said he want "amnesty" and so has McCain - I don't know how much more connected to Latinos these two can get - that is all that really matters to those who are not Americans but are Latino-Americans. I am an American.

The so-called "Amnesty" about which so many whine, is not amnesty at all. You need to learn the meaning of the word.

The proposed immigration reform of Bush involved charging illegal immigrants thousands of dollars just to enter the process of legalization. This is no AMNESTY. Anyone given AMNESTY has total forgiveness for their "crime" and would therefore not be paying a mammoth fine.

So, if you racists wish to bash immigrants, at least try to understand what the hell you're talking about.

Me, I know MANY undocumented immigrants, mostly from Mexico, and they are mostly cool people. You'd be surprised to know how many people are picking crops in California who have college degrees, or had businesses or farms in Mexico or Central America. The forces which drove them over the border to work illegally were largely controlled by USA corporations.

Yet you gringos whine that they're here. Hell, YOU are their oppressors, refusing to even acknowledge that they deserve basic human rights, that a working person's children deserve healthcare and education, that they are after all HUMAN just like you.

You don't know them. You can't even speak their language. I like them a whole lot better than I like YOU!

Is an immigrant a defined race capable of being bashed? Is a particular race more inclined to be an immigrant? Wouldn't a racist be more concerned about the race of the immigrant?

And finally, if an immigrant marries a racist (and in California you can both be boy racists/immigrants or both be girl racists/immigrants) the immigrant is home free. How sweet is that!

That's really funny, because you know as well as I do that illegal alien lobby and the Chamber of Commerce will soon after law passes throw up road blcks and a hue and cry about how the penelties and provisions in the new law, put an undue hardship on the immigrant and is cruel and unusual punishment for such small offenses.

know this whole thing will be gutted after the media plays all the sob stories.

Also, we know it will cost Billions to enforce this "Comprehensive Immigration Bill". There will have to be a whole new Bureaucracy to meet the need of enforcement. Who will ensure that immigrants learn English in allotted time? Who will make sure they are telling the truth about how long they have been here ect...

Build the fence cut off Gov. benefits and enforce existing Federal laws and they will self deport.

After that we can set up more visa programs and aid programs to help Mexico's economy add jobs!
