Black America | Nearer to Overcoming

Barack Obama's success shows that the ceiling has risen for African-Americans. But many are still too close to the floor.

Why are African-Americans so much less prosperous than whites? Why do so many black children flounder in school? Why do so many young black men languish behind bars? Why are stories like Mr Fryer's considered so surprising?

Black and white Americans tend to produce different answers to these questions, and there is also heated disagreement within both groups.

That's easy...because they're African Americans.

...a lot of us already had this whole study figured out, some of us don't....lots and lots will reject it completely...and some will embrace only the parts that they agree with....but it's a nice try....

Wrong. Not because they are AA's. That's monolithic, we are NOT all the same. Many of us are even ostrasized from our own communtities for advancing because of their own, "we are all the same" beliefs.

America is a strange place. America hates blacks, but wanted us around for cheap slave labor. The hatred, segregation continued into the 1960s. Blacks were legally restricted from economic and educational advancement, yet they still wanted us around as a source of cheap labor.

This is the same problem that anti-immigration advocates (primarily white) have wit Hispanic immigrants. Hispanics only want the money, they're not interested in assimilating. This is angering many white Americans because previously, Black Americans have struggled to justify their acceptance into the American mainstream. New immigrants are not striving for such acceptance. They want to use the economic system without the hassel of real citizenship, to the dismay of many white Americans. They understand the game, color is an issue in America, but so what, stop trying to prove stuff to racist people and get every last drop of what you want out of America for the benefit of themselves and their families, screw all the patriotism. America was intended to be a white Christian nation. Undrestand that and use it to your advantage.

This is one reason Michelle Obama said she was proud of America for the first time. Historically, Black Americans have been socially and economically held back to justify white supremacy. Slavery, Jim Crow, Tuskeegee Experiment, Rosewood, Florida, Margaret Sanger's Negro Project, and the destruction of the Greenwood neighborhood (Black Wall Stree) in Tulsa, Oklahoma are examples of this treachery. Unfortunately, many black American's do believe in their own inferiority and its hold back the majority of the Black American population. Until we cope to the game, we're going to continue to sprial into oblivion.

This is a very good topic. There are several reasons why things are the way they are for us, primarily I believe becuse of the curse on the true Israeites. Also there are other people black and white alike who deny that there are such disparities among black people not only in America but in the world. Just answer me this if we only make up 13.8% of the US population how do e make up more than 70% of the jail population. I can't do that math. Can you be mad at Jerimiah Wright for what he said i actually find it to be very true. Especially when not even two years after the brutal death, and near death experience of Sean Bell, Guzman, and Benefield, I can still be arassed, humiliated, and assulted in Jamaica by the NYPD (New Yok Pricks & Dicks) not 10 minutes from where these 3 had their near death experience. Can you be mad at the Iraquis, dont they look like us. Can you be mad at the other people that this country chooses to go to war with, dont they resemble us. If you ask me they have more heart than we do because at least if they cant live and be treated like human beings should be treated they would rather die.

Enlightening, however our history in America is more intense than just coming over here to provide a better life for our family, we all know the history I dont have to explain. You post is very intersting, and actually answers personal questions that I previously had. Peace

nope you are "ostrasized" from your community because you have abandoned "YOUR" community for the community of "man"...translation in euro universal jargon, "white man"

what's wrong? Why all the negative ratings? have you noticed when white people talk about things that they are instrumental in initiating or controlling, they never distinquish themselves as "unique." This is euro culture hiding their intent..

For example there have been 42 "men" who were president of the united states.

They will never say the truth, 42 WHITE MEN!!

To blame others for ones failures is an easy way out. To point at a presidental candidate and say see we... then to say the that others have held us back seems to be in conflict. How was one guy able to succeed when so many others failed?

Mention the sixties and look at almost 50 years later still whinning about being oushed back again smacks of poor poor me.
