So let's be real about something here for just a moment. Here lies Topix AA forum. A gathering place of our people, their people (you know who you are) and many strange and controversial visitors. In this forum, on a daily basis we proclaim our greatness! "Black is Beautiful", "Black Power", and a host of other sometimes meaningless "slogans." But if for one moment you will allow me to, I'd like to challenge. This question will upset some, warm others while utterly infuriating the weaker of our residents. That being said, I will preface no more. It was once said by a seemingly wise old man (Doby) "My greatest strength is that I recognize, accept and make "arrangements" for my weaknesses" (use that answer in an interview and you WILL get hired! LOL) So I ask you Black Brother or Sister, now what is your strength,(I already know how strong you are!) but what is your greatest weakness? Now before you trip, remember this. If in fact we were everything that we proclaimed to be and lacked any weaknesses, then we would not be here defending the actions, situations, or reputations of ourselves or our people. So be easy....be real! I will start by listing a few of mine. 1. Procrastinate: I simply wait too long to do things that are important. I need to get better at that. 2. YES MAN: In my efforts to "help" people, I often accept far too many tasks. More than I can actually accomplish which means something doesn't get done, which means upsetting or inconveniencing someone I set out to help. 3. Temper: I could stand to keep a "chill pill" in my pocket for emergencies. I could keep going, but I think you get the idea. So, who will be honest and take a step towards being all that we "say" we are? Perhaps in discussion, we can here from someone who once shared a similar weakness and that person can show us how he or she overcame it. See where this is going? Or perhaps we can just skip this whole thread and spend another few months of our time trying to figure who's Patty C.....?

I'm a person that wears his heart on his sleeve. I care about people so much that I would actually sacrifice my well being for my friends. Especially when it comes to the ladies.
I tend to lose my temper at times and need to work on it some more. My temper sometimes gets the best of me. Darn Scotch/Irish and German blood.
I can't call it a weakness, but I tell the truth even when it is not appropriate. I would call it a fault. I'm goody two shoes.
Need to think of some more. I'll let you know.

I have no patience for nerve racking folks. I am willing to finish anything once started, even if it is bad..and will wait to go in for the KILL. Time matters, not. People think I forgot something...when in fact..I have only lost respect for them. It can happen in degrees, but when I am done with you..I am done. The good: I believe in completion. I have strong faith and really think I can move mountains. I am the little engine that could...no...that WILL!

Weakness: I tend to hold crap "in" too long. I will take enormous amounts of unfair criticism, then I will explode with almost inhuman rage when pushed too far, which will lead one to believe that I have gone insane.
2) In man/woman relationships, I tend to be a bit clingy and needy.(a real turn off)
Strengths:1) I am an excellent provider and protector of my family.
2) I am a loyal friend and will take secrets those have shared with me to the grave.

Ok people...I love you all but no listing of strengths.
Let's discuss things we need to improve on. Also feel free to comment with a "helpful" suggestion os story about how you overcame a listed weakness or a suggestion as to how that person may overcome.

1) Like everyone said I already, I procrastinate too. Wait to the last second to do things and then have to work 10 times harder to complete it. 2) I'm too sensative and get offended easily 3)I'm not that detail orientated and be moving so quickly that i don't notice things until its too late 4) I have a little bit of a big mouth, I have accidentally told someone's secret to one person and everybody end up finding out. Not a lot but a few times. I got strengths too ofcourse to balance out my faults

Doby, I know you wanted to hear just from blacks, so I hope you don't mind me popping in.
I take things too seriously. I like everything to be just right. I get mad easy. I am anti-social.
I have no answer to solve these problems of mine, except to deal with it and try to control it.
By the way, do you have any more of those riddles we were doing the other night?

Thank you for this thread, Doby; on-line self-improvement class, so to speak. Excellent.

OK, I've got another
I'm always so focused on what I want to achieve,(the big goal) that I tend to give too little focus to the "small" things that need to take place in order to get there.
Effect: Nothing get's done!

In your original post, you said "my black brothers and sisters", something to that extent. I was just trying to be polite because I try to avoid threads with just black issues that I can't relate to. I hope that sounded right.

I recognise that no one can truly be evil itself, only follow it.

i do have snobbish tendencies...workin on that. my hubby is down to earth..that is one of the things i love about him. and comin from my folks...i think i have progressed quite a bit with relinquishing elitism. what is kinda ironic is that here the Chinese culture is very class based. sigh.
i have a temper that lies in wait. it takes a long while to stoke it...but...it is not pretty. thank goodness i don't get upset that often.
i don't give folks in my life too many chances to mess up. after a second chance, i am done and will right off folk rather easily. i can forgive easily and harbor no ill will...i just do not tend to care afterwards. apathy is not a good trait.
i have met many folk here in Macau, but i am just not ready to invest in yet another group of friends to just leave again. i make friendly acquaintances rather easily, but this time because i am getting older and am ready to have kids, i am being incredibly selective with whom i befriend. i just rather keep things formal for now.

Welcome to the thread! NOW SPILL YOUR GUTS! LOL!
